August 5, 2010 at 9:38 pm in reply to: Using BorisRED while Media100 renders?

I’ve used the BorisRed Engine app and Media100 at the same time previously but separately, however what I want to do in this instance is use BorisRed to edit a clip that I created on a Media100 timeline. The clip isn’t something that I exported as a consolidated project.

Is there a file saved within the Media100 project’s media folder that I can open up as a project inside BorisRed? And if there is such a file, is there any chance that accessing files in the Media100 project’s media folder will result in crashing?

In the RENDERED MEDIA folder within the project’s MEDIA folder, there are files ending in .HAL and .RTI, is one of these a BorisRed project file?

    Thanks,
    Jaeson

I didn’t have the PROJECT window open. I just reloaded the original project, opened that window and found my hidden COMPs. Thanks.

I ended up rebuilding my COMPs and saved the separately. But for the future, it’s good to know that everything will be saved within a single project.

    Thanks,

Under the EDIT menu, select PROJECT SETTINGS.

If 1:2:1 deflickering is turned ON, try turning it OFF. I sometimes use this if I’m doing something like rolling credits. It makes the overall frame a bit fuzzy. I mostly keep it turned off unless I need to soften some annoying flicker. It’d be nice if this option could be restricted to individual layers rather than the whole project.

I usually leave better quality field rendering turned ON. But if you aren’t working with interlaced fields then you probably don’t need this.

You can also try switching between 8bit and 16bit colour depth.

Unless you are working completely uncompressed though, you will experience some degradation in image quality with each level of processing from media aquisition to final product, just like dubbing an analog tape over & over.

I installed the latest version of QuickTime this afternoon and so far, so good. The projects open up and no problems playing the media. I’ll upgrade our 2nd system tomorrow if nothing rears its ugly head.

We have a Sony HVR-M25U deck.

Give the inherent problems with HDV & Media100HD control, it’d be nice to have a customizable retry option in the Batch ReAcquire window. I can get the media I want eventually by manually hit the acquire button a few times. If Media100HD could retry several times for me then I could walk away with more confidence.

BTW, I have improved my ReAcquisition success by changing the FF/REW SPEED setting on my Sony HDV deck from the default FF/REW (maximum speed without display picture) to SHUTTLEMAX (max speed with displaying picture).

It’s not 100% but it has greatly reduced the reacquisition errors.

I tried the conform option in v11.5 and it worked as advertised. Thanks.

Can I safely install the trial version without disrupting our present version?

We are planning to upgrade our software in the not too distant future.

Audio driven FX would be interesting too, like linking jitter with a beat. Some music libraries, like Digital Juice Stack Traxx, allow you to separate the music layers. Then you could tie the fx to different elements in the music.

I’d find it useful to be able to display the audio as a visual element in a variety of options like waveform, equalizer and maybe something fractalish or kaleidoscopic.

    Thanks,
