Just kicked out a DVD with your specs (now that I have the right codec!) — it looks pretty good I have to
say. The colors and contrast I thought actually looked quite close. I did notice dissolves were a bit strangely affected – they seemed to “burst” on and off a bit if that makes sense… which I am sure probably has something
to do with the blacks.

In terms of bitvice and grain, I’m not sure if I am a good judge at this point. I have always used an external dvd burner/recorder as a quick and down and dirty way of kicking out dvd’s. But it came up recently that I actually needed to make one digitally so… thought it was time to learn. I’ll post more as I try it.

Could also do it using the “picture in picture” effect within Media 100 – if you shrunk the picture and placed it against black. Though it would become a two step process as you would have to reimport the rendered clip. And then build another box against that reimported clip.

I feel for you — I did the same thing a year ago.

From my experience is that it is possible sometimes to recover it – though a pain in the neck.
If you did a secure empty trash they are unrecoverable … if just a normal empty many are recoverable.
With Media 100 files though, I think you are out of luck as even if you did manage to recover them
the files names would change and they would never relink to your program.

From what I learned and went through, you can recover a good deal from a Hard Drive even on OSX.
However, the files will never be recoverable with the same names or in the same file structure. So say,
you erased a word file called newletter.doc. You could recover the file but it would end up being called
somethign like WordFile0004576896.doc.

I would recommend a program called Data Rescue (I believe they are on the second version). It recovered
a horde of files – though as I said their names were no longer the same.

A name change isn’t a bad idea at all. As everyone on here who has stuck with Media 100 knows,
it is a great machine with the best interface out there. And it really is impressive to see the
new vitality that has been pumped back into the company by Boris. With that said, in my opinion
when you say you work on a Media 100 you get the blank stare like you are on crack. Why would you do that
when you can work on Avid or Final Cut? My answer is, that I like it better. But the company took a beating around
2000 and people started seeing it as a dinosaur.

Not sure if the time is right at the moment to change the name. It feels like Media 100 has caught up with the release of software
based systems. But if they did release a new unique feature that truly pushed them a bit ahead or gave them a new niche…
then to change the name wouldn’t be a bad idea in my book.

This is kind of a different question but applies to this post.

So if I wanted to do something in HD on Producer – and managed to load the HD files on to a drive from another editing system – say Avid or Final Cut — what codec what I use to load that would be transferrable to Producer (and let’s say for the sake of this question it wasn’t the Media 100 HD codec)? Would that work? And would it be possible to export the final Media 100 HD project from Producer back onto the drive to be exported from the Avid or Final cut?

Easiest solution I realize would be just to get the Media HDe etc… but not possible at the moment – so I was wondering if that is doable?
