I’d guess the good old ICA will have courses in the US around that time.

Best money I’ve ever spent on training!

    Jamie,

What are your views regarding no nVidia GPUs?

We’ve been speaking to Tim over at your place regarding quotes for a few more machines and some Avid bits and pieces for our new floor. He said you guys would be popping into the big city soon and would pay use a visit! Looking forward to it!

Any chance of another DaVinci demo whilst you’re in town!?! Went to the one at Sound London but didn’t get much time to play.

    Cheers,

    You sound equally disappointed.

Looks like we’ll just buy 3 EOL 2009 Mac Pros instead as we’ll probably get a better deal. GPUs are great for Apple Color, but I could have really done with anything new and nVidia for DaVinci.

Poor form once again for the Apple Pro market.

Should just bite the bullet and get an iPad.

12 cores. Nothing that fun then.

No nVidia card atm. ATI Radeon HD 5770. No good for us DaVinci people.

    Ports are the same.

    Only four PCI slots.

A MASSIVE thumbs down from me.

Can’t work either… Final Cut is Media Managing a 60min deliverable to the client’s USB 2.0 drive. Really wish they would just get something with an eSata or 800 lead!

I just have my fingers crossed for 2 or 3 more PCIE slots… Oh and that better GPU!

You can no longer reserve and pickup at many Apple Stores on Mac Pros. A tell tale sign of an imminent update!

Currently no due to the whole ethernet thing. The Wave is USB, as is the official DaVinci panel, so it’s a tad easier.

It’s on their ‘to-do list’ that includes other I/O cards.

Tbh, I think you’ll want a really fast RAID. Budget conscious, then fair enough, but it’s really worth the investment.

As for RED. My understanding is that you can grade at full res, but the second you press play it blurs a bit and then plays. Similar to Color.

In fact, if you haven’t tried playing with the Proxy settings in Color, give it a go and you’ll understand what I mean.

I’m starting by investing around £5k additional over the £15k of kit I’ve got. If I get to like it workflow-wise I’ll invest in the panel… If not, I’m looking towards Digital Vision and the Nucoda Fuse/HD range.

Based on what I saw, the workflow is almost identical to Film Master, so I’m happy with that as that’s my favorite toy!

    Glad to hear I helped!

We have 7 of the AKA desks in our facility of various different sizes as well as shed loads of their top of the range chairs. They are literally the most flexible and customisable chairs out there. Never once had backache sat in them, mainly due the the adjustable lower back strip.

They also do facility design and do an incredible job of that also!

my understanding is that it can do everything the linux version can, barring 3D due to graphics card limitations.

i also seem to remember from the demo i had, that you can output anything you like within reason. can’t remember 100% though.
