There is too much motion and variation for the low bitrates used by video hosting sites like YouTube et al. If internet streaming is the primary distribution platform you should simplify the video, or upload a higher bitrate version to a different site.

High compression encoding works best when blocks of pixels from one frame can be reused in several other frames. Videos with a lot of action, camera motion, and color variation force the encoder to use pixel blocks that are “close enough” to the original video. The problem is close enough might not be very good.

Create a mask object for the eye holes and link it to the lower layer using the Track Matte Key effect.

I use motion tracker in AE, so this advice might not translate to Mocha. Look for a tracking point in the center third of the frame where the lighting is relatively constant. I think the moving flashlight, moving camera, and lens/water distortion are causing problems. Also, it is normal (with AE motion tracker) to use several sequential tracking points to get through the length of a clip.

Sorry, but the link in your post produces an error message: “This Video has been Deactivated.”

  • [Dave LaRonde] “Intentional vertical video…. not a good idea.”

Your rationale makes sense, but expect portrait mode to become more prevalent in the future. I recently saw stats stating that over 60% of internet use is via smartphone or tablet, and 20-25% of Americans use a mobile device as their only computer. In addition, many retailers are mounting digital displays in portrait mode for content delivery. So, sure, landscape makes sense for cinema and television, but there are other forms of media where portrait might be preferred. I think we should be flexible and open to the possibilities.

  • [Daniel Waldron] “Make two layers of your video, scale up the bottom one to fill your screen and add a blur to it.”

Agreed. Also consider adjusting the levels to desaturate and/or dim the background video.

File Size = Bitrate x Duration

If you need to reduce file size from 400MB to 300MB, reduce the bitrate to 300/400 = 75% of the current rate. If the resulting quality is unsatisfactory, consider reducing the image resolution (from 1920×1080 to 1600×900, or from 1280×720 to 1024×576, for example).

Internally Premiere Pro decompresses the footage and processes effects at up to 32-bits. ‘Editing Mode’ is the name given to a preset that corresponds to a collection of sequence settings. It will only affect your output if the corresponding settings are inappropriate for the project. What are the differences in parameters shown in the Sequence Settings for the two presets?

Not sure if this will work, but I suggest making a copy, deleting all the internal graphics, and then trying to merge only the items that are on the perimeter.

AVCHD is 420 and AVC-Intra is 422, which aligns with your camera codecs. AVC-Intra is the better choice between the two. I believe ‘Editing Mode’ is just a preset, though; adjust the settings as required. (Is your footage 60fps or 30fps?)
