    Had the same problem, what fixed it for me was replacing
    “MS Sans Serif 8,10,12,14,18,24” font value in registry from “SSERIFE.FON” to “SSERIFER.FON”
    Can be done manually by navigating to

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE SOFTWARE Microsoft Windows NT CurrentVersion Fonts

    and changing it there
