I don’t know it his is useful, but on the AJA website you can find the AJA Windows Quick Time codec. So, if this AVID works on a PC, this codec maight be useful

I just updated from Kona SD a week ago. I used the Blackmagic drivers for Decklink for the Kona SD. I think it was version 4.7.1. Only trouble with it was the RAM preview in After Effects. Apart from that they worked perfectly. Look for the drivers on the Blackmagic website

I did. The whole thing still doesn’t work a 100% like it should. I can’t really get my finger behind it, but I get the feeling that the settings that are available on the Kona Control Panel are not completely fit for a PAL environment. Tomorrow we will take another look at it

Solved the problem; I think. It’s in the video play back settings. Should be 720p 25fps DVCPRO HD 8 bit. Stupidly enough I overlooked this setting

Hi David, Strange thing is: the problem was gone when I had all sorts of settings wrong and my monitoring was sort of screwed up. But since I got my settings right again, the problem is back. I’m beginning to believe that it is a Kona problem, because the sound is doing OK in play back. In the Kona 2 Control Panel there is no setting for 720p and 25fps. Could it be that the frame buffer starts at 59,94 and then sort of slows down when there is a lack of input in terms of frames per second?? Or am I talking bullshit here?

    August 6, 2005 at 8:16 am in reply to: Kona2 and DVCPRO HD 1080/50i & 1080/25p

I posted this asnwer a bout a week ago. Got this receipt from AJA for a 720p set up. Just replace the 720p for 1080i. Take care to shoot at the same frame rate that you use for capture.
    Works fine here.

Here are the steps to create a 720p 25 easy setup.

    1) Setup FCP with a Kona 2 720p 23.98 easy setup.
    a) Go to Easy setup menu ( ).
    b) Make sure the SHOW ALL checkbox is checked.
    c) Select one if the Kona 2 720p 23.98 easy setups (uncompressed or
    DVCpro HD – your choice).
    2) Create a varicam 720p 25 capture preset.
    a) Go to FCP audio video settings -> capture presets (tab).
    b) Click on : Automatically makes a copy and puts you in
    the preset editor.
    c) Rename capture preset to Kona 2 varicam 720p 25.
    d) Change FPS from 23.98 to 25.
    e) Exit.
    3) Create a varicam 720p 25 sequence preset.
    a) Go to FCP audio video settings -> sequence presets (tab).
    b) Click on : Automatically makes a copy and puts you in
    the preset editor.
    c) Rename sequence preset to varicam 720p 25.
    d) Change FPS from 23.98 to 25.
    e) Exit.
    4) Go to FCP audio video settings -> Summary and click on Setup>. Name it Kona varicam 720p 25 “codec name”. This easy setup is based
on the new capture preset and sequence preset you created in steps 2 and 3.
Note: playback remains at 720p 59.94.

    July 28, 2005 at 7:02 pm in reply to: 25fps kona 2

    Hello Keith,
I am discussing this same subject for a while now with different people. I’m still waiting for my Kona 2, so I can’t say anything yet. I mailed to AJA about this subject and got this reply from Rudy van Koll. I’m very curious to know if you succeed in capturing your stuff properly. Good luck!!!

Good news the Kona 2 supports varicam 720p 25; however one small drawback is
there are no easy setups for 720p 25.

    2) Create a varicam 720p 25 capture preset.
    a) Go to FCP audio video settings -> capture presets (tab).
    b) Click on : Automatically makes a copy and puts you in
    the preset editor.
    c) Rename capture preset to Kona 2 varicam 720p 25.
    d) Change FPS from 23.98 to 25.
    e) Exit.
    3) Create a varicam 720p 25 sequence preset.
    a) Go to FCP audio video settings -> sequence presets (tab).
    b) Click on
: Automatically makes a copy and puts you in
    the preset editor.
    c) Rename sequence preset to varicam 720p 25.
    d) Change FPS from 23.98 to 25.
    e) Exit.
    4) Go to FCP audio video settings -> Summary and click on . Name it Kona varicam 720p 25 “codec name”. This easy setup is based
on the new capture preset and sequence preset you created in steps 2 and 3.
Note: playback remains at 720p 59.94.

    Hope this helps,

    Rudy
