  • Yes, I eventually talked to tech support at Matrox, and they confirmed this.

I didn’t exactly follow the answer, but he said that some editor environments detect “overlay services” automatically to output to fullscreen. Other editors require a special plugin to support this output feature specifically.

Vegas is one of the editing envonments that requires a plugin. And because the plugin has not been made specifically for vegas, therefore, the card can’t let the HDTV serve as a broadcast monitor.

    I don’t exactly follow this.

Someone suggested using linkplayer 2 to connect your USB HD drive with
your HD content to the usb port of linkplayer 2. That sounds doable,
but tedious during the edit process. I don’t exactly know what the typical workflow process is like (although DSE’s book on vegas 6 is on its way to me from amazon.com, so maybe I’ll know soon).

    Other ideas?

  • I’m also looking at Nvidia Quadro FX 540. I’m assuming both can serve my purpose ok? (FX 540 is $100 cheaper).

    (1 VGA + HDTV out).

It’s boiling down to 1)cost and 2)most of the time I’ll be using a single analog VGA monitor and possibly adding a genuine HDTV LCD monitor when they become affordable. Have I forgotten anything?

Anyway, it’s nice to know the the Parhelia works well out of the box with Vegas.

BTW, newegg.com has a good filter for video cards.

(Sorry for asking about HW on the vegas forum; don’t worry, once I get kicking, I’ll be posting here more often.
