    Have you seen this:

    https://www.adobe.com/go/kb402403

AE8 has problems with renders etc. when there are more than 6 processors present.

If you’re using a PC laptop you should look at DV Rack HD (which was bought by Adobe and will be called OnLocation when CS3 turns up.)

If you’re renting, rent 2 cards and dump them to the laptop when they fill up. Much easier in the long run.

One thing working in the Customer Service industry taught me was that you only hear from the people with problems.

If the Cow isn’t full of threads cheering the release to the sky, don’t assume nobody likes it. The people who haven’t run into problems aren’t posting here for the most part – they’re busy cutting footage.

Actually, reading the article again, best performance would be to just distribute the 2GB DIMMS across the risers and not use the 512s.

The OPs original config won’t cause problems though, it just isn’t optimized for fast memory access.

No, he will be fine. The config he mentions is specifically mentioned by Apple as good for best performance:

What’s interesting is that Apple provide an intermediate vector programming library so that you don’t have to write “bare metal” code for each chipset.

If the Quad genuinely can’t keep up (I’ve yet to see anyone confirm it can’t), then it would appear that Apple didn’t use it’s own libraries and wrote SSE3 optimized code exclusively. That’s a little lazy in my opinion.

I’ll just add another vote for the Compressor route. Exported a 1080i50 short yesterday to PAL HQ DVD and Dolby Stereo and was very impressed with the encode. Drag and drop into DVD Studio and you’re good to go.

I’ve never understood why they don’t ship it with some basic paper docs, then offer a full document set for an extra fee.

That would save some trees but still give us paper manual obsessives our fix.
