We still ‘support’ the existing apps for now in terms of providing Tech Support but they’re EOL as far as development, which is the costly part. Going forward all of those resources will be focused on Browser.

Also keep in mind that this is also replacing a pretty complex app for XDCAM Optical, so there was that whole feature set to deal with as well.

Appreciate the feedback, please keep it coming..

    Cheers,

Actually you can do this, just add the marks and select “In Out region” when the import dialog pops up.

The limitation vs XDCAM Transfer is that you can only create/import one at a time.

All your observations are correct, Craig.

XDCAM Browser was not intended to radically change the existing workflow. The idea was to start consolidating the features (and development costs) of all the different applications into one application that will be easier to support and maintain. Also keep in mind that this is version 1.0. There will be additional features and fixes added as the application matures.

    Hi ron,

If you are asking about using the app in standalone mode to re-wrap to .mov, without FCP running, then no, unfortunately that’s not possible in 1.0. We have already asked for this functionality, which is present in XDCAM Transfer. I’d recommend you use XDCAM Transfer 2.12.

Hope this helps and thx for the feedback,

    Also–

As far as the Log and Transfer plug-in, it’s only the link on the EX Micro site that’s not up to date. v 1.2 is available directly from the US parts/software site (which is what most of the links on the EX micro site redirect to…just not this one)

As far as EX cameras it was only the EX-1 with early firmware that pulled down the ‘live’ 23.98p output. EX-1s with 1.11 or higher as well as the EX-3 have a ’24p system’ menu item which allows you to select PSF or pulldown for the HD-SDI out while in camera mode. The PMW-350 and PMW-500 have this same option in the ‘input/output’ menu.

The F350/F355 XDCAM Optical cameras do pull down the 24p output. The deck models from this line up F70/F75) are switchable.

    HI David,

I would probably agree with Craig that you may have a bad copy. It’s really best to use Clip Browser or ShotPut to transfer the files. We have seen OS (drag and drop) copies create problems with missing and zeroed-out files.

October 5, 2010 at 2:19 pm in reply to: New XDCAM Browser

    Hi Dave,

You can natively export XDCAM optical MXF files from Vegas & Avid with no additional plugins.

You mention cost– all of the XDCAM applications are provided free. XDCAM Browser will have a free base module with a chargeable add-on package from Sony and a chargeable Main Concept codec bundle (as with Clip Browser).

The chargeable feature pack will include mostly Optical XDCAM features such as support for Live Logging, EDL creation and planning metadata (XML files with descriptive metadata that can be sent via wi-fi to XD Optical camcorders). EX-applicable add-on features include support for adding GPS info to MP4/MXF files and support for burning BPAVs to Blu Ray DVDs.

We have no illusions about the foreground processing limitation and are aggressively lobbying to get that changed.

While there will be no further development of XDCAM Transfer and the other existing apps you will not have to change over to the Browser right away if you prefer XDCAM Transfer or PDZ-1. (Although PMW-500 users will need it for MXF on SxS support and for formatting SxS cards in UDF mode.)
