if you want to stick with Transfer make sure it is v 2.13. But this is a discontinued application and doesn’t always work correctly with the newer drivers and other software. If you can’t get it to work with transfer try using Content Browser v 1.1

XDCAM HD422 must have 8 mono channels of 24 bit audio. It’s normal for the export to fail of you don’t set this correctly.

XDCAM .mxf files (up-converted from EX files using one of the Browser apps or any other available means) can be stored as playable video files in /CLIP. Other non-.mxf files go into the USER DATA directory, which is for generic storage.

Setup for the SR-R1 slaved to the F3 (outputting 1080/60p) and doing ‘Select FPS’ overcrank recording between 24-60fps would look something like this:

Make the following settings on the F3:

Camera Set –> S+Q ON format = 1280 x 720, 2398 (dual link output will be 1080)
Video Set–>Dual Link and Gamma Output = 1.5 G YPbPr 422 + Video
Video Set–>SDI Rec Control = SYNCHRO

Click the S+Q dial do change the fps.

On the SRR1:

System–>System Format–>

-FRAME = 23.98
-SIGNAL = 422
-SELECT FPS = ON
-FPS FORMAT= S59/S60

System–>Others–>Rec Trigger = SYNCHRO (playable)

You need to be at SRR1 1.5 or higher for the above settings to be available. If you are updating from 1.0 or 1.01, go to 1.5 first, then 2.10. If you are above 1.01, go directly to 2.10.

The previous poster is correct in that in certain configurations the F3 will output 1080/59.94p even though this is not selectable in the menus. See the manual supplement which lists all possible output options/combinations..

No, this isn’t really possible with off-the-shelf tools. We can access the raw, non-interleaved audio and video .mxfs when we record to optical disc but this directory is not accessible on the SxS UDF recordings. Even if it was they are not in the same .mxf pattern and can’t be decoded easily. The best workflow is to continue exporting audio from the full res files. If by ‘exporting different audio channels’ you mean having more control over what channels get imported (for example, if you don’t want all 8), this depends on the editor. Currently Avid and FCP 7 can do this but Premiere cannot. In Avid it requires a traditional import instead of using AMA. In FCP we tell the Transfer plugin to ‘only import monitored audio channels’ and then click the channel pairs we want in each clip’s audio panel.

Yes, from what I understand you are trying to do, this is possible, the F3 can do Synchro recording at selected frame rates when mated with the SRR1

The driver is not built in to any operating system. You will always need a driver. The camera may go into PC Remote without it but you will never see the correct file system. Both drivers are at https://www.sony.com/xdcam-downloads under Applications Plugins and Drivers–> ‘SxS and i.LINK FAM drivers’
