Michael Cioni defines Stockholm Syndrome as:

“A survival strategy that forms a bond during intimate time spent together.”

    A more accurate definition is:

A survival strategy ( by prisoners of kidnapping) that forms a bond (between victim and captor) during intimate time spent together (in forced captivity).

Which leads me to a specific view of Cioni’s motivations (and they are all parenthetical.) If Cioni is content to argue that it’s OK to view Apple as a bunch of thieves and kidnappers, who am I to argue.

[Bill Davis] “my email pinged with a link to fat digital check for a recent gig.

A gig was executed rapidly and smoothly thanks to FCP X.
Which has caused me to be EXTREMELY grateful in a few areas. “

I also just got a check for a gig, although it was slender enough to make it through my mailbox, but still I am grateful for –

My feet, which cost me nothing but maintenance, and which I own in perpetuity, and without which I would be unable to walk to work. So just a shout out to them 10 little piggies, and you know who you are.

    Thank you.

April 18, 2019 at 12:31 pm in reply to: Remove all cross dissolves

[Joseph Freeman III] “Is there a way to globally remove all instances of an effect, such as cross dissolve?”

Strangely enough there is a hardware solution:

    https://palettegear.com/premiere-pro

    Here’s is a tutorial

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=36&v=Mecr8wLpKf8

If you order this with just a single “button” controller you can easily program this button to delete any/all transitions highlighted.

You would think that if an external controller can do this you should be able to do this with keystrokes, but you can’t.

By the way, I have found that the other controller modules that Palette makes don’t do anything you can’t do by keyboard, so if interested just buy the single “button” controller.

April 16, 2019 at 2:31 am in reply to: Multi cam audio issue

[Olivier Prudhomme] “talking about premiere pro?
Right clicking / open in timeline… opens the multicam sequence as a multicam…
    Have you tested this before?”

I use mutlicam on a daily basis and have been using Ppro for about 4 years, so yes I have tested it.

A multicam sequence is basically identical to a normal sequence in Ppro and is used like a nested sequence. One of the differences however is that it won’t open in a timeline when you double click the sequence, you have to chose the option to “open in timeline” and then you will see all the original source clips laid out on tracks and you can replace/filter/move/add to those tracks like in any other timeline. Once the sequence is “opened” you can select any of the clips and chose to either “reveal” in the Ppro browser or in your computers finder by choosing the correct “reveal” command.

[Olivier Prudhomme] “Did you mean “sequence”?”

Yes, I meant multicam sequence. Right click on that and open it in a timeline and you will have access to all of the audio sources.

[Olivier Prudhomme] “I was hoping I could Reveal the clips in Project and find the audio. But I can’t Reveal a clip in finder in a multi cam sequence….”

You have to “open” the multicam clip (right click on the multicam in the browser window) which opens the multicam as a timeline sequence. From there you can reveal clip in finder and replace the audio, just as you would with any ordinary timeline.

[Brett Sherman] “I misread the specs, 3.7 Ghz i5 and 3.6 ghz i9 are available options. I inverted the numbers.”

I did a similar thing when I misspoke. Damn numbers, grrr.

[Brett Sherman] “Comparing graphic cards is highly dependent on software and OS being used. So my point is that they are basically in the same ballpark. Do I care about gaming performance? I do not.”

That’s a pretty big ballpark you live in. This whole argument was about cost vs performance. If we scale the Nvidia card back to a basic 2080, then we are indeed in the same ballpark, except now Oliver’s machine costs $500 less.

In any event, I can agree that the new Imac is a great machine if you’re cutting with FCPX. However my main client is a large media firm that is committed to both Mac and Adobe. FCPX is not an option, neither is a PC. Which is why I’m working with both a 6 year old and 10 year old Mac Pro, the latter being almost as fast as the former, while spinning my wheels waiting for Apple to produce a computer that will induce me to spend my money, and the Imac will not be the system to do it.

[Brett Sherman] “An 8GB Radeon Vega 48 is a lesser GPU? Different, I don’t know about lesser.”

The Radeon Vega 64 is a lesser GPU than the 11GB 2080ti in every speed test I’ve ever seen. I’m assuming the Vega 48 fit below that.

[Brett Sherman] “Lesser processor? They are both Core i9’s. iMacs is slightly faster.”

I stand corrected, they are identical 8 core, 3.6, i9s (don’t know why you say the Imac is faster.) Of course the difference is if you wanted a faster processor or more cores with the PC you could get it. With the Imac … not so much.

[Brett Sherman] “And with memory there is a point of diminishing returns. I’ve never felt lacking with 32gb. But I do know Adobe apps tend to be more memory hungry. (One might say worse at managing memory)”

I haven’t worked with less than 64gb in years, so I wouldn’t know. As they say, you can never be too rich, too thin, or have too much memory.

[Brett Sherman] “A fairer comparison would be with the newly released iMac (which is roughly the same price, yet includes a 5K monitor).”

Which said monitor is useless if you already have your own monitoring in place, which has a slower CPU, a lesser GPU, maxes out at 64 gb memory, has no internal PCI slots and therefore requires additional Tblt 3 – PCI expansion box’s if you need it. Thank you, but no thanks.
