To be more specific, Facebook destroys the quality of images because during upload the files are re-processed with a much lower jpg image quality setting.
There is nothing you can do about it. Facebook wants to save on bandwidth and storage.

Notepad++ is a great editor: I still use it for quick edits.
Although for any serious web dev work Netbeans is my favourite – open source and free as well. The Chrome Netbeans connector (live update in Chrome when you save your changes and vice versa with the Chrome inspector into Netbeans) is hard to beat, and it also supports Sass and Less out of the box. And a php debugger is built-in.
If you’ve worked with Notepad++, hitting in Netbeans enters “Notepad++ mode” for your active document.
Although I have to admit Netbeans is really an integrated development environment, rather than merely a code editor – it might be overkill for some.

Any change you make in either one (by editing the smart object) is reflected in the other half.
Unfortunately, Photoshop’s smart objects cannot be edited in place (they open in a new window), nor do they update in realtime. So for this type of work it is rather inconvenient.
Photoline’s virtual layers are far more efficient: the original source layer can be edited in place, and changes do update all the clones in real-time.
You will have to live with Photoshop’s limitations in this case.

It’s very simple:
– convert your wife’s photo to a RGB greyscale version
– then add the greyscale landscape on top of the photo
– create a mask of your wife’s body (quick mask works best, probably)
– then apply that mask as a layer mask to the landscape.
– switch to overlay mode, or soft light mode, or hard light (with reduces opacity), depending on the effect you wish.Done!

I believe that is just the nature of InDesign. With large publications a higher quality anti-aliasing would take ages to process, and even simple operations, like panning the view, would become cumbersome.
The quality of image placed without any transformations should be good – I have tested this in both CS6 and CC.
Rotating any image reduces the quality quite a bit – as will scaling. Then at certain zoom levels the imported and transformed image can look very bad with horrible looking edges.
It is what it is. I recall a time when we did not even have high-res previews of our layout work…

You cannot – because the hardware may very well be capable of that resolution, but due to paper and ink limits, you will always have reduction in quality.
To actually check the true technical limits you would have to contact the manufacturer directly, and ask for one of the engineers who worked on the product. Then ask for the technical references – but I doubt they will give those to you.

As a matter of fact, you are the first person I have ever encountered who asks for this! Layer masks are kinda essential for most work, so it makes sense that they are added by default.
Why not just use groups, smart objects, and so on, to reduce the clutter?

This opens a can of worms. I would suggest that you point this out to Nvidia, since their drivers cause the issue.
If it is a real problem, you could always add a small warning telling Nvidia users to change those settings in their driver preferences. And as always: you may be able to tell the difference, but I suspect 99 out of 100 users will not notice the reduced image quality.

The solid version’s colour values for green and blue are beyond of what can be reproduced when you set the opacity to 50%. You can, however, pick up the colour of the transparent one with the color picker, and set the original to the same colour.

August 12, 2014 at 7:20 am in reply to: Strange Changes From One Display vs. AnotherThe others are correct: I increased the gamma to a very high one for the top image, and the splotches appear in that one as well.
Your screen is not displaying the contrast differences very well. The original’s black is not a pure black at all, but a noisy dark grey mess (probably because this was scanned in or a photo was taken of the original printed cover).
The quick solution: add a temporary high gamma adjustment layer, and fill the dark areas with true black.
While you are at it, I would remove the noise too, and make the colours more vibrant (since the cmyk print lost all of that).
