To bad there’s no Thunderbolt. So no broadcast video out, no fast raids, etc.

I’m just curious, what do you use your second 370 for? Multicamera angles for interviews or something else?

I ask because I’m thinking of getting a second camera body for multi camera work, mostly interviews.

    THanks!

Yes, it does fill up my system drive (a 250GB SSD). It’s one of the little inconveniences that go with FCPX.

I used to have my projects and media on the same 8-drive miniSAS raid, and felt FInal Cut X ran slow. I moved my projects to a different drive (my system drive) and it’s been running faster since.

I just upgraded my Mac Pro to Lion and the P2 Formatter works fine for me. I’m using a PCIe-based PCD35 card reader. I think your problem may be that Panasonic’s drivers have an issue in Lion with older card readers. Check the P2 site (panasonic.com/p2) and you should find some info.

    1) I really want a new way to create alternate cuts of the same project, without having to duplicate the whole project. On a regular basis, I want to try out a new idea while keeping the option of going back to my original edit on the Timeline. But duplicating the project is so wasteful in terms of disk space, and creating too many projects can slow FCP X to a crawl. So I would like the equivalent of alternative timelines within the same project. In other words, bring back Sequences please.

    2) The ability to set In and Outs on the timeline, and export just that section of my work. Right now, the only way you can export a portion of the timeline is to Export to Compressor, which takes a while to load, and even longer to set In and Out points.

    3) Better Copy/Paste attributes, which more control over what’s copied and not.

    4) More snappiness.

  • Hmmm, thanks guys. Strangely, the pause seems to happen at the beginning of my project (a 4 minute video) and not by the end. I’ve tried trashing preferences, rebooting, etc. I’ll let you know if I discover something.

One thing I really liked about the FCP X/Motion 5 duo was the ability to publish parameters in Motion (color, font size, speed, etc.) and make them available in Final Cut X for tweaking. That has saved me A LOT of time when working on lower-thirds and other graphics.

Thanks Andy. I tried that but it didn’t help. I opened Compressor on its own, closed the Preview window, and then went back to FCP X and chose Send to Compressor. Same interminable delays (spinning beach ball) before the project shows up in Compressor. Thanks though.

Thanks for the tips, Mark. I double-checked my 4 minute project’s size and it’s 120MB, so I will look into ways to cut that down. But it really is egregious that a user has to jump through hoops to keep their project file size down rather than just editing. It’s supposed to be easy.

As for you tip about exporting to Compressor, I might try that, but it’s such an awful kluge, and can easily lead to losing work because you forget to undo after an export. Again, jumping through hoops.

I really do appreciate so many of Final Cut’s elegant solutions and tools, but right now, all that’s being suffocated by Apple’s rushing FCP X out the door. So unprofessional. For a company that prides itself on being filled with “A players” and making “great products”, it’s especially appalling.
