did you capture as HDV? or as Prores?
what do you mean by “changed the codec to prores”? in sequence settings? that could be quite intensive on HDV media with filters…
if i got you right you captured as HDV,
FCP has an option in the render tab of sequence settings to render as prores (good for XDCAM and HDV) which means shorter render times as you edit and longer on export as it has to re-render everything to HDV. is that the case?capturing HDV to Prores would save you a lot of trouble. there is a capture preset for this workflow in Audio/Video settings .
not sure if batch re-capturing your sequence to prores would work (HDV acts funny and is unpredictable with timecode) but you could try it, on a 10 minute sequence it might be shorter workflow than a one hour export

not as quick as you might wish…
but you could media manager your sequence, use the “copy” option and copy your sequence and related media (with or without handles) to a new project in a new location. you can then delete the old project’s media.
if i understood your post this will get you to where you intended… longer ride though
media manager could use some work done on it… i recently discovered how much it lacked the often unappreciated “do not include media already on target drive” Avid has…

since this thread seams to have been hijacked and the original poster is not around anymore 🙂 i would like to add a question
as i was thinking of how to write it, i threw out this small test. would like to know what you think.
source i worked with is PAL interlaced upper field, captured via decklink component, out of a mini DV source, to prores HQ, canvas window 100%,

seq set to upper. video monitor looks fine in playback, obviously not fine when paused. canvas looks comby on pause or playback on moving objects but sharp on edges. my test focuses on the entire frame and on the white pacifier rimpic2
seq set to none, no combing but edges seam less sharp, video monitor slightly blurry, less sharpness on playback.pic3
seq set to none, FCP de-interlace filter set to remove lower, looks better than pic 2 on the edges, but still not as sharp as original material. looks ok on playback. in video monitor, image is blurry and softer on playback and pause.from the FCP manual “(de-interlace filter) Can be used to remove the upper (odd) or lower (even) field from an interlaced video clip. The remaining fields are interpolated to create a whole image, with marginal softening of the image as a result
obviously, FCP does not do that great of a job de-interlacing, but some sort of soft interpolation of one of the fields.
i tend to work more often with progressive material so i don’t encounter these problems on a daily base, but every once i a while they come up and annoy i will try the Nattress “Smart De-Interlace” too and see if it looks better.
any better way you know of in FCP? or did i miss a step and got it wrong?
i should probably try this with better source material too, however,
my though is that there is no way to get perfect results, and that there will always be some price to pay for de-interlace…pic 4
this is the best i got out of compressor, setting the following, Prores HQ for interlaced material, video settings unchecked interlace,
frame control on, set to output progressive and better deinterlace mode i did try best mode first, it produced many artifacts (i even tried max anti alias) eventually, better mode got a better result than bestpacifier rim looks practically as sharp as original, but there are strange comb artifacts on the hand and around it, and it doesn’t look good in playback – more artifacts…
it seams compressor deals better with edges of static objects in the frame than with moving ones and FCP is the opposite.
any thought?

could it be that while copying a copy of a copy you crashed? reverted? accidentally clicked no when fcp asks you whether to save or not? duplicated and kept working on the same file? and that the sequence doesn’t even exist?
mess always brings more mess 🙂
hope for you this didn’t happen next to a client
did you try autosave?

you could create your end credits as a single long and narrow graphic file in photoshop (or even motion…)
2 key frames and you’re up and scrolling…

if you don’t need to manipulate Jpegs individually on the timeline,
you could try this.
after you loaded the image sequence into QT, save as, and chose the “not self contained” option. this will create a reference file.
open this file in compressor, and encode it to ProRes HQ. if pessible, it is recommended you re-size to HD dimensions (or crop to HD proportions before you make the image sequence and then re-size)
don’t work in uncommon resolutions, FCP is not optimized for that
use this file for work.
a Jpeg image sequence is not a favorable format to work with in FCP
if you do need freedom in manipulating, bring all of your Jpegs into FCP
in the user settings, in the editing tab, you can set the duration of still images, set it to 1 or 2 frames.if your stills are name ordered, select them all at once, and throw them on an HD ProRes timeline. re-size, adjust and crop in FCP
might work better for you than what you are trying now

your monitor should probably be connected directly to your card (kona LHe) not to the deck, and so does the deck (I/O and deck control)
then, in the view menu
select the right video playback and click command F12
if your speakers are connected to your card, as they should be, select “audio follows video” in the audio playback option.
