As previously mentioned formats vary within the market. Why not just ask your possible outlets for a program format sheet? One outlets may be 22:00content another may be 22:30 or even 23:00 of content for a half hour show. We all have put mega-hours into projects so good luck. Poor Planning..Great Planning..Mega-hours..unique programming..been there done that. Just ask the outlet and stay away from the catchy phrases. Depending upon your plan/program do not anticipate that an outlet is going to pay you for your work so focus on getting sponsors on board. Worked as a program director for medium market for many years. On average I got 5 proposals a week for shows. We didn’t buy shows. If we did anything other than news, it was done internally… that’s changing now so you may have just a little bit less of a mountain in front of you.

I may be misreading this but my understanding is you want 2 wireless mikes to transmit to 1 receiver.. no can do unless the mikes are pre-mixed and then sent to the receiver or the receiver is a multi-channel/multi-input receiver. 2 mikes independently transmitting on the same frequency will either cancel out or the dominant signal will prevail (I think, I am not an engineer). You could use multiple single channel receivers recording the same incoming signals/channels (no conflict for receiving). We use sony. 2 transmitters for 2 mikes… 4 receivers (2 on 2 cameras)…that way we don’t have to mess around re-syncing in post and the cameras do not have to be linked to a multi-channel/input receiver. But what the heck do I know..

Thank you so much for the education. I really appreciate it. I think I mis-read the focus issue, in that, it would appear that you cannot switch between auto and manuel as it is a mechanical switch. (Was thinking of using it on the end of a jib-arm). But, you’re right about the auto-focus.. coupled with the wide angle, should work just fine. I’ve been looking at those wireless transmitters(2.4ghz/5.8ghz–Premier Wireless eg.) in the $2k~$3k range and wondering if they’d work for broadcast (assuming a short range 200yds max kind of set up – – just can’t see running fw out to center field). I figure around a $50k fly-pack.. which is quite amazing considering the cost of broadcast even a few years ago.

If I read this right, in theory, I could have my dsr Pd 170 hooked up via firewire to a switcher like the datavideo or sony anycast using up to 100 meters (300+ feet) without any in-line “boosters”. Is the video broadcast worthy? Without trying to reinvent the wheel, I was going to build up a (4)cam system connected via firewire. Thinking of using a wireless video return showing switcher output to each camera (maybe that laird waveshot coupled with some mini uhf tv’s). Wireless headsets. I like my pd170 but maybe that’s not the best camera as you cannot use the focus on the varizoom (to my understanding). I would prefer a full wireless system (too include camera’s) but that just costs big bucks… seems to me the firewire (at 300′) would do the trick. Agree/disagree?

September 2, 2005 at 7:45 am in reply to: font probs in FCP

Adding to the font problem..after upgrading to FCP HD 5.0.2 and OsX 10.4.2 previously used fonts within fcp are not keying well and the sizes have changed. eg. optima original and the “new” optima are not the same.. got any ideas? I was using the basic text which was working just fine prior to the upgrades. Unfortunately, the OS and FCP upgrade were done at the same time so I’m not sure where to chase the problem. Any direction would be appreciated.
