OK I think I’ve got to the bottom of the problem. In FCPX there are 3 cameras in multi cam but also the audio is in multicam. So the audio is used all the way through the edit so i am assuming when I convert the Xml it is thinking that the audio is an angle and that is overiding the visual in the conversion because it’s used the whole time.
So I guess i need to know how to delete that “audio angle” from FCPx multicam and then when I convert it will work. Anyone know how to do that? The one in the green box

I took your advice and purchased the conversion programme. I have a much healthier timeline now. However all the multicam footage which is about 80% of the project plays audio with just a black image (no visual) Any idea why the image is missing?

Hmm, I’ve now taken the project to try and solve this issue. So am starting from scratch. I did notice that when I imported the XML myself this afternoon, there was a timeline but no bins. So i’m wondering if I exported the XML correctly the first time. Also the odd file name was scattered around in pink but it was mainly a sea of red just saying multicam.

A friend did this for me – “importing into DaVinci Resolve, then exporting to FCP7 xml THEN importing into Premiere”
I can edit but when it comes to any technical stuff I have no clue, file types, xmls etc… but I am trying to learn, so any direction is appreciated.

Thanks buddy, I’m a bit of an amateur so I’m not sure about spending £50 on the conversion programme in case I can’t get it to work, the FCPx is mainly edited on multi cam and is quite a big project. I might just re edit the whole thing from scratch.

The problem is the multicam, anything edited in multicam on FCPx shows up as red in Premiere once converted. So the only solution is to re edit in FCPx removing the multi cam (how do I do that?) or the other option is just start from scratch in Premiere.
