Make a Quicktime Export of your film. Use the SELF CONTAINED setting.

When this has cooked, drag it back into your Timeline and unlink the picture and sound by highlighting first and then unlinking sound and picture with COMMAND L. Now remove 4 frames or however many you want to remove from the front of the sound.

Now export the thing again Self Contained and you are done and your file is ready to be shoved into Compressor.

I’ve had this issue with DVD Studio Pro for years. Before I run anything through Compressor I always remove 4 frames of audio from the top of the soundtrack and that drops the end result back in sync.

Unfortunately it seems to me that in DVD ST Pro one can advance the sound in the view window thingy, but not the picture.

So minus 4 frames sound works for me. You are talking about “a second or two” – but maybe you don’t mean that to be taken literally.

I have never received a proper explanation for this except that once someone told me that this occurs only when progressive picture is being used.

If anyone knows why, please post.

Hi Martin,

Here is the re-installation of everything that worked for me on my Mac Pro 8 core v2,3.

OS 10.6.7
Quicktime v7.6.6
FCP 6.0.6
Prokit 7.0.

This now works with my HDV files recorded on a Firestore FS-C (the version for the Canon XL H1 etc series of cameras).

I hope it works for you. It took me three days of misery to get there.

Thank you all for your help. I finally solved the problem by reinstalling Snow Leopard 10.6.8, FCP 6.0.5, Quicktime 7.6.6. and ProKit 5.1.

Phew!

They don’t make it easy, do they?

Again, my sincere thanks for your encouraging posts. It took me two full days of experiment but I got there in the end.

Are the music files in your timeline .mp3?

If so, I suggest that you replace those .mp3 tracks with .aif versions, or transcode them to .aif. You can do this in the Quicktime application.

Open the .mp3 file in QT, go to EDIT > EXPORT (as .aif) and stick it back in the timeline.
