Hello Jon,

just to let you know, I changed the process and let down dynamic links. Now I render the comps from AE using quicktime and keeping the alpha chanel.

I edit the animations in PPro if it’s just for time stretching and for more involved anims, I go back to AE, make the changes and re-render what I need. It’s more tedious, but DLs do not feel stable enough when files are exchanged from one computer to the another.

I do continue to use DLs though, only when I create a project on my computer and that project will not go on any other computer.

Thanks Jon,

Just tried that and it’s not working.
I imported the AE project in a new file, named it differently, left it in the same folder.

The new AE file opens well and the comps seem to work fine in it.
I can import a comp in a brand new PPro file, but…
– I can’t create a new seq with the comp (by dragging and dropping it on the “New Item” icon)
– The only thing I can do is the “Automate to Sequence” button to put the comp in a sequence, but…
– … in the seq timeline, I can’t move the seq around, even though it’s not locked.

Same thing as before. I imported a comp from another AE file to make sure that was not coming from my set up. That comp is working just fine.

So it’s definitely the way that first AE file is set up that creates the problem.

I need to find what creates that issue to have my contractor change that thing on his side; before sending me the file.
I don’t see what settings to consider though.
If you have an idea, that would be great!

I tried re-importing the AE comps in the PPro master file. No luck:
– The AE comps are imported; but…
– … once inside I cannot put them in a sequence by replacing (using the alt key)

So the problem is definitely coming from the AE file.
What makes this file behave so differently from other AE files I use.
It works fine when opened in AE, but has the above behavior in PPro. Really strange.

Any idea?

I called Adobe and they would not help solve this. That’s their policy, as they consider this as a normal behavior of the app! (The employee over the phone did recognize that was a strange policy)

I’m not sure I understand it all.

“You might need to get all the assets Linked for the AE project and save”: the AE project has all it’s assets in place and works well in AE, so I presume I have nothing to do for this step, right?

“Then go to the PPro project and unlink and relink the AE DL comps.”: how do you unlink an AE comp in PPro? To re-link, I presume I’d use “link media. Please confirm.

I synchronize voice and video in a DSLR H264 file to AE animations. And I’d rather do that in PPro because animations appear often, in small bytes and represent only 10 to 20% of the timeline.

But I’m new to this and my process might not be efficient.
What workflow would you suggest?

Thanks for weighing in. Based on what you say, I should not expect to get an improvement, whatever I do.

I’ve tried your suggestion, but it does not change much. I guess we would have to wait for CS6.

But I feel a bit disappointed that Adobe touts this feature in some of its promotion content, when it actually does not work well.

Yes I’m native files from the 7D. I’m doing so to keep a lean workflow and remove steps. That’s why I chose the the 7D. When I go down from 1080 to 720, there is a marked improvement. So your point is probably right.

But the 7D files are not in AE, they are in PPro. So I guess PPro also has trouble working with H264.
