First question is: have you converted the files? If not you might have problems with FCP and the h.264 files that the camera creates.

Second question: are you using an external hard drive? You are definitely going to have problems playing 1080P footage off of your laptop drive, unless you are using a really good SSD drive.

Absolutely true, Michael Sacci… I do not need to use Color frequently, but that is the only big con of the IO HD. Nothing beats the Kona 3 when you have a desktop; I’m more of a laptop kind of guy.

After a whole year of everyday use, having endured a new OS instal and a new FCP, I cannot recommend it enough. Best gear I’ve bought in the recent years.

Same crashing problems, not as much on FCP ( still using 6.0.6 ) but AJA TV and VTR Exchange became very unreliable. I personally have an IO HD with the 7.1 drivers and Snow Leopard, but the crash reports are related to the AJA output as well.

The only problem i see is if he needs to capture 444 material. The IO HD does not have a dual link SDI connection.

You can use VTR Exchange. It is free and made by AJA, but make some tests if you are using Snow Leopard because it is not as stable as it was in Leopard.

Have you tried inserting the timecode using the deck instead of FCP? That problem happened to me a few times and I’ll usually use the deck to to black and code and ETT using assemble.

I have FCS 2 installed and, as of today, things are running perfectly fine. The OS is definitely faster, Quicktime seems way more responsive.

Example: on my MacBook Pro 2.4 4 GB connected to a Esata 4big Quadra with a Sonnet Tempo Pro/34 card I opened 2 1080P ProRes HQ Trailers at the same time with no dropped frames at all, something that wouldn’t happen on Quicktime 7, and CPU was around 65%….

I saw that, but I want to test things without installing “legacy” software….kinda of science project.

Just installed Snow Leopard today. FCS 2 works fine, IO HD doesn’t work (already knew about that). The new quicktime is a piece of crap compared to 7 in terms of features, but i haven’t tested it enough to see about the old gamma bug…..

    Always learning….
