There’s a doc I worked a few years ago that had a lot of different footage called ” The Crash Reel”…. don’t know if it helps you with what you’re looking for but it had a lot of different types of media.

I’ve been a heavy EasyDCP user since 2012 and I can tell you that after around 100 DCP created exclusively using their suite and never being rejected by any theater or QC company, I wholeheartedly recommend their suite.

Easy to use, clear instructions, great videos on their website explaining each software and amazing support. It’s not cheap, but it has paid itself over many, many times over the years. I can say it was the best software purchase the company has ever done while I was there.

Have you tried Metafuze? PC only but creates mxf files and an ALE.

I personally have really bad experiences with long sequences, especially with hi res stills.

I would advise you to work in reels and, after the show is done, export the reels separately and the create one longplay timeline with the final exported files.

I agree with everybody when it comes to ProRes 422 and HQ; not a lot of benefits unless you’re getting HDCAM SR tapes.

  • Thank you! That is what i wanted to know!

  • That is why I got curious about it! I know how the Kona card and GPUs work but I just can’t see how the IO HD would benefit from it considering it’s a FW 800 external box.

Maybe it’s just a software optimization, but I’m still interested in knowing exactly what’s been improved, because I’m not really seeing performance changes….

  • I know, but i would like to know, if possible, what kind of performance improvement was made…. I just hate the vague answers, like Apple does as well.

  • Can someone be a bit more specific about what kind of RT performance I should expect? That is a bit too vague….

Honestly, although you had a few instances where it played it fine, without an external drive it just not going to work well. Another problem is that your machine is below the minimum specs, and to render HDV to ProRes on the fly you’ll need something faster.

It all depends on your computer and RAD specs, but the short answer is yes.
