And if you’d ever like to add a narrator or any recorded audio, you’ll regret not having one.

It’s really usefull to be able to adjust levels and audio quality _before_ you record. Same goes for ausio as video:
    S___ in equals S____ out…

  • [Will Keir] “is there any articles or form posts have detail this method for FCP”

Search the forum. There are tons. You should maybe do a search over at After Effects and Motion, too.

[Will Keir] “Do you mean to just take a movie with Muzzle Flare effects, somehow isolate just the Flare part of the screen”

Eh, no not really. That would actually be illegal (if you took it off “some” movie”

You got a good description on how to make one of the effects in one of the other posts, and a place to buy stock photo.

As to compositing, that’s a good idea. Have a read in the manual.

OK. I might be way off here, but the Varicam doesn’t shoot 25p, does it?

AFAIK it shoots everything in 60 and flags for different framerates, so if you don’t have the transcoder unit you’ll have problems going directly to any 25/PAL solution.

From what I was told from the PANA rep, I’d have to take it in as 60i (if I didn’t have the transcoder) and either do a software conversion (bad) or buy/rent the transcoder (good) to get a decent PAL image.

But again: I might be way off…

Are you sure it isn’t shot in 24p?

January 23, 2006 at 8:07 am in reply to: Absolute Best Graphics card for FCP?

All speedtests I have seen shows that the geforce 7800 GT is an almost equal performer to the quadro. (In the PCI-e scenario)

Also you will not as of today see much performance enhancements in FCP with a “big and bad” GF card. Motion will see a significant perfrmance boost.

This might change at a later stage, though as it seems Apple plan to offload more and more of rendering and RT tasks to the GPU.

Check barefeats.com for comparisons, or do a google on the subject.

January 23, 2006 at 8:02 am in reply to: build a raid with 4 180gig Hitachi drives

You could find a 4 port PCI SATA card (for space, or you’ll need 2 ATA PCI cards). I think Highpoint sells an ATA to SATA plug to plug into the disks)

Then you could build the disks into an off the shelf PC cabinet. (You’ll need to fiddle some with the powersupply to make it work as the PSU is dependant on some short-circuiting happening on the mainboard – which you won’t have)

Then you’ll have to run the SATA cables out of your Mac and into your new RAID.

    Happy fidling!

OK, thnkx. Don’t really need it, but that sounds like a rather odd feature, don’t you think?

    HM.

Isn’t one of the perks of Quicktime 7 that you can capture directly via quicktime?

I dunno wether this will allow for TC, but it might be worth a try.

[Fletch] “also, i’m not sure if my G4 can cope with it, not to mention whether 49 minutes worth of HDV footage will fit onto my 400G G-Drive…”

HDV takes the exact same space as DV, so you’re well off there.

But the 8 bit uncompressed is another story.
Are you sure you dis this?
    How? (without a capture card)?
How can you edit that on your gear?

Or do you mean DV as “uncompressed”?
