Was capturing from a Panasonic Pro HD deck to FCP5 via Decklink HD Extreme card. I patched the HD SDI in to the Decklink and was monitoring to a Sharp Aquos external TV. Pics were fine but sound was ahead of image by 2 frames. I captured the files at both 10bit HD 4.2.2 and downconvert to SD DV codec. Both the monitoring during capture and the playback after capture had the audio 2 frames advanced. I have used this same capture and monitoring with HDCam, HDV, DV and SD from digi beta. This is the only instance where the audio sync was out, so I wonder if it is an issue with the Varicam format.

I also looked for a way to correct the sync during capture. Is there a sync offset parameter?

Footage was 25P on Varicam and captured to 1080i 10bit 4.2.2 HD

OK. I might be way off here, but the Varicam doesn’t shoot 25p, does it?

AFAIK it shoots everything in 60 and flags for different framerates, so if you don’t have the transcoder unit you’ll have problems going directly to any 25/PAL solution.

From what I was told from the PANA rep, I’d have to take it in as 60i (if I didn’t have the transcoder) and either do a software conversion (bad) or buy/rent the transcoder (good) to get a decent PAL image.

But again: I might be way off…

Are you sure it isn’t shot in 24p?

We have been thru this a few times and YES the Varicam does capture @ 25 frames.

HOWEVER there is not a FW workflow for that frame rate directly with the 1200a deck. It requires an additional 3rd party card like the AJA kona Cards to be able to handle it correctly.

The 720p format is Progressive only and it always captures at 60p to the tape.

My problem was not capturing the video. Yes it was 25P and yes it captured HD SDI via a Decklink HD Extreme into a 108050i sequence. The AUDIO was out of sync 2 frames and I wondered why.
