We used it when I worked for a network in Nashville. Mind you, this was the mid 90s and it was DOS-based but the entire building (TNN, CMT, WSM, and the Opry) were all on the same page in real time at all times. We could seek by date, by suite, by person… it was a schedule all.

I fully understand stickin’ to what ya know but you can’t work faster if you have to take walks for renders. Learn After Effects. Now is a great time. You’ll soon keep it open in every session and have no need for Avid FX. It was an ok thought by Avid but they never really went anywhere with it.

That’s the bif handicap in some film/art schools. They’ll teach something as if it’s a rule. That’s just a limitation.
180 rule? What if I wanna shoot from the other side, man?
Legal levels? What if I wanna buzz the dog outta someone’s old set?
    😉
What line goes first? It depends on what’s on second.
Rules. It’d best to know them
so you can break them properly.

IMO, a staffer of the same post house for 3 years should not be assisting anymore. It’s time to get promoted to editor or move on to a place that hires you as one and pays you as one.
The average freelance rate in LA is $750/day. If going on staff somewhere, I’d say ask for 60k, based on your market and experience. You should be able to break the six figure mark in a few more years, depending on your skill set and initiative.

I just send reference files to AE then render what I need.
Again, I do this last, time permitting.

I always do effects last so I’m not wasting time on a shot that may wind up on the cutting room floor.
