    why is it so brillant?

Because they say so. Their products were brilliant in the 90s. Now, it’s stability that is purchased as there are many solutions for less that do more, regardless of which software/hardware your looking at.

Is it different to Pinnicale’s Liquid editing suite?, if so how different?

    That stability thang.

    does it give film effect?

Define “it”. You can get plugins for any of the softwares available. Some offer 24p and some don’t.

    does it give surround sound?

    no

does it let u import mpeg?

    no

Avid is a company, not an it. They make a large handfull of different solutions ranging from bogus to freakin’ sweet. The price ranges reflact their coolness.
On the low end, you’ll be buying Avid products to increase you marketablity as an editor. On the highend, you’ll buy them for stability/piece of mind.
Scope out avid.com to study up on their products.

It’s a good thing. There are many black burst generators available. Do a quick search…

Sapphire gow is the best for this.
You can fake it with white you make from title tool or photoshop and defocus combos as filler.
Bust out a 5 frame dissolve, add defocus keyframmed as afiller above that then dissolve the whitein at 3 frames and out at 2 and seee how ya like it. You can double those durations if ya like.

The biggest thing that makes post-production different that live TV is we really never have to let anything go. I do realize we have what we have as far as elements but there are infinate combos of those and one of them is perfect. If you feel your letting something go, you may not have found that one perfect combo.
Now, there are many many great combos…
but only one perfect one, imo.
Duplicate your sequance, chill after hours and dink with it. It’ll come to ya and the director will ove ya for it, man.

    No.
For the basic reason that you can get a real Nitris for this price.
I do belive it will become a sound HD tool for those on Unity in needs of such things but as far as buying a single unit with lotsa purposes for a set price, it’s hardly a middle ground between Adrenaline and DS Nitris.
The one I saw at NAB still boasted the ailiased DVE. I was told by the demo artist that this was because the Nitris hardware had not been installed into the demo there at NAB yet.
ok whatever. I just see ailised hooha with no native support for HDV and a 90k pricetag. Doesn’t matter what plans are made for this… at this point it’s just bogus.

…and someone needs to be smacked in the freakin’ head, man.

7.6 is impressive but there are two things that should set avid Avid fans thinking:
A: lets not forget Avid didn’t make their best product. They just bought it and have built upon it.
B: Upgrades use to be new goodies… not bug fixes. They still are for most other companies.

Now, Avid isn’t buying great products. They are swooping up consumer stuff and focusing more on consumer/prosumer sales. This tells me not only are the higher-end products being neglected more than they should be, but we are over-paying for them because of these lower-end purchases we care nothing about.
Doesn’t taiste good that way, does it?

  • mmm no.
Worst and funniest transitions in the history of post-production.
Every see a flop bar commercial with a silhouette of a chick’s leg as the transition? How about the more than aliased rotating ball? Falling sheeps with moving legs? Black blood/wet paint ooze? or how about the city skyline silhouette that took us through a window of a building to reveal the next shot?
Ya saw these about 15 years ago on cheezy local spots.
I had fun with em in my toaster/amilink daze but never dared actually use any of them in a paying project.
What was wonderful about those days was the fact that a very primative version of Lightwave was included and this was how I cut my teeth on 3D.
Damn I feel old now, Valerie.

Oh, I know it wasn’t ready to be shown at NAB but that’s a good reason to not have shown it.
Kinda like releasing Adrenaline before it was ready, Avid seems to like to have people pay to beta test for em these daze. Pretty reckless, imo.
It was explained to me that later on HDV support will be added and the DVE aliasing will be fixed. Fine. So the price right now should be 40k turnkey as it’s an Adrenaline.
You can understand the frustration, I’m sure. I already own a Symphony with an aliased DVE and no native HDV support. It has realtime ultimatte too. Paying 80 grand for Symphony Nitris wouldn’t help my situation and it’d be pretty crazy to ask consumers to pay this with the promise of it getting better later on.
Even all tight and rockin’, this price point just isn’t realistic. Anyone that would cheat themselves out of a real Nitris for only 10 grand more would have to have their head checked.
I see Symphony Nitris as worth 50k (providing these issues are fixed… we’ll see) and have never seen DS Nitris as worth more than 70k. But then, I see Adreanaline worth 20k turn key so either my price structure or Avid’s price structure is off 20 grand and has been for quite some time.
I’ll end up getting a DS Nitris. It’s simply the best match for my workflow. I’ll pay 70k for it though. I stated that long ago. I may have to wait a while for that. I’m fine with that.
