    Sure.
I will post up a tutorial with pics when I get a chance.
In a nutshell, I use saphhire glows as filler. You an use BCC glows the same way but you’ll run into te render in to out bug from time to time wit em. I use em as transitions and you can do it with only three keyframes. The first and last keyframe are the same… brightness and width all the way down and threshhold clamped all the way. The middle one, placed over a quick dissolve (3 frames or so) and you can play with threshhold, width and brightness to your liking.
this make sense? If not, lemme know. Pics’ll help.
Ya just add an edit on a track above your lil 3 frame dissolve. I vry the duractions but you can start b stepping back 3 frames before the dssolve and add another edit 3 frames after. You can also get funky with these as filters on the clip itself, cranking brighness on the beat of music and such. I use scanlines the same way.

It was pretty funny. I had inteviewed him for quite a while and he spoke quite nrmal. Then I asked him to do a “your watching” line and he busted into the hulk character. I rarely laugh on the spot but couldnt help it this time.

Boris Continuum Complete. It use to be a stand alone app/plugin and now it’s packaged with Avid products. Lots of filters, generators, ect. Good for quick effects.
Ironicly, I never had probs with it tillit was included with the Avid’s application. Now there are render in to out bugs every now and again.

I average about 500 hours per one hour documentary in post, fwiw.
If it’s just cuts with bites and some b-roll, it can be done in as little as a week but I suspect thats not the case. Your best bet is to not quote a flat bid at all on this and just stay hourly. This way, their creativity stays o their dollar.

  • you can use BCC low for your flash effects. I beleive you have the cheezy pimp my ride morph in your stock toolset dont ya? fluidmorph or somthin like that? I’ve never found a use for it but I believe it’s in XpressPro as well.

man, when you find out how to compress without losing quality, let us know! 😉
I use the HD presets for wmv files in squeeze. They work pretty good for approval purposes.

I think you are referring to transitions with custom mattes.
I have an animatte tutorial here on the cow that may help. You can apply the same principal with masks in AE.
You can get quick transitions out of the native avid but you’ll have to dig deeper for cooler transitions. If I have five minutes or so, I do em in Avid but, given time, an effects application is the place to go to create cool eye candy.
Often, you can create your art in Photoshop then fly some layers around in after effects and get whatcher lookin for. I keep em open in every session.
I do recomend Sapphire effects. They add alot of power to a bare-bones avid with BCC buggage. To me, all avids are naked without em.

I’m a little fuzzy on what you’d call television transitions but a quick easy nice one is to use a resize effect over a cut. You can make start 4 frames before the cut, end 4 frames after the cut and make a keyframe in the middle (on the cut) scaled up to 150%. This makes asnap zoom effect on the outgoing and incoming shots. I also use alot of glow effects this way. Tear into BCC glow using the same principal descibed above and se if ya don’t get some cool results.
Also, don’t leave out the good ole 10 frame dissolve. Still the trans I use the most.
