Thanks John. I had thought of the idea of “hiding” the talking head video behind the (nearly) full screen slide, but wondered if there is a simple technique to make a clip “disappear” without cutting the footage?

Just a naïve idea, but Sound Forge has a plug-in designed to remove voice or music from an audio track. I have no idea how it works but since it seems to be optimized for voice, it might work.
