I have been talking regularly to both AJA and our Apple Rep about this problem. I received a call from AJA tech support the day after FCP 5.0.3 was released, and they confirmed that this release DOES NOT fix the problem. There appeared to be frustration that the problem had not been addressed in this release and that they would be contacting Apple FCP engineering again.

I continue to anxiously awaiting a fix to this problem!!!

[gregg] “Why not shoot 1080i and keep the format through the workflow? Ever notice any artifacts in the conversion?”

Everything we shoot, archive, and/or release… including our field footage for possissible future use…. is required to be 720p

[walter biscardi] “Switch your 1200A over to output 1080i and it’ll work just fine. Stupid, really stupid bug.”

I would definitely be doing the 1080i work around, but the gov. standard for HD is 720p. So, all the raw footage is recorded 720p… I don’t know about converting to 1080i for editing and converting the finished product back to 720p…

I have been folowing this post because we are experiencing a similar problem since we upgraded to FCP Studio, Tiger, and capturing with the KONA 2… 720p over the HD-SDI from a Panisonic 1200 deck.

I haven’t seen any posts recently related to this… This problem is driving us crazy, the work around of re-importing the clips from the capture scratch works, but is far too inconvienient. And, Capture Now works fine, but requires constant babysitting!

Just wondering if anyone has found a solution to this yet. We have called AJA, who told us that they are aware of the problem, but aren’t sure that is the problem is with their software… I have also contacted Apple, but have yet to hear anything back!!

So… I’m just watching the posts to see if anyone else finds a solution.

  • I did read the other post from a couple of weeks ago, and the problem appeared very similar, but it I did note that their problem was with the uncompressed 720p and not using the KONA 2 setting for DVCPro HD.

I also tried on what was suggested on there about having a clean load of the operating system. That takes quite a while to perform, and we continue to experience the same problem.

I have contacted AJA support, and they told me they are aware of the problem, but they are not sure it is an issue with their software. They said perhaps it was Apple’s problem.

So, I showed the problem to a Rep from Apple who was here… he didn’t seem to know what to do about it… so he had me write out exactly what was happening, and he is forwarding it on to others at Apple who may know what to do about the problem.

I was waiting (and am still) on a response from them… I decided to post here as well to see if someone else perhaps has already experience this problem and found a solution.

I’ll pass on any info I get back, if any!!
