Log And Transfer wasn’t available to import files when we started a feature film project several years ago on FCP 5, and P2 CMS was used.

When we went back to the project to make some alterations and prepare Blu-ray material, the project was primarily native MXF, by this point we had upgraded computers and the P2 CMS had been lost during the various upgrades and installs. Log and Transfer is a good option and my preferred method for new projects, but we were now faced with using log and transfer to re-import nearly 3TB of footage and rebuilding the project and it’s simply not cost effect.

In your post from Dec 21, 2009 you stated that buying one of the various plug-ins was your only option beside using log and transfer. So, if you knew that wasn’t the case why didn’t you say it was?

    Shane,

I quick shout-out to all the great info and help this forum has been to me over the years: THANKS FOR ALL THE HELP!!!

    It’s time to give back!

You can edit MXF files natively from Panasonic’s HVX200 in FCP6 and FCP7 in both 32-bit and 64-bit modes without spending any money.
You need to download and install Panasonic’s P2 Contents Management Software aka P2 CMS. It is almost impossible to find.

You can drag an drop .mxf files directly into your bin, the video file, and the four .mxf audio files, you WILL HAVE TO SYNCE THEM YOURSELF, but the clips are the same length, so it’s not super hard, just time consuming.
