I haven’t tried exporting but no it’s not a problem with the SDI out of my Kona 3 or Kona LHe.

I’m shooting with the HPX300 right now so I could record full res and a proxy. Then with MXF4Mac I could edit using the proxy and online my final sequence with the AVC Intra ingested as Prores HQ.
Do you guys have issues working with FCP pluggin effects or green screen comps in MXF?

This is what Jeremy said about working with MXF4Mac and proxies, so maybe I’m the one that is misunderstanding:
“What I use and recommend is using MXF4mac to bring in the native AVC-I footage, then edit in a ProResHQ timeline. Bypass Log and Transfer completely. You then edit (you could even edit in a lesser quality ProRes codec, such as proxy or LT) then media manage the final timeline and reingest just your final sequence @ ProRes HQ.”

Do both you and Jeremy use MXF4Mac? Do you have any glitches working in full resolution or proxy?

It occurs in both the viewer and canvas windows.
But since AVC Intra is only realtime preview in FCP7 I’m going to re-ingest it all as Prores HQ. That will fix both of my problem at the same time.

I don’t understand why Apple says “native” if it’s a decoder. I see no advantage to using it then. I have been ingesting AVC Intra as ProRes HQ already and it works fine except that the ProRes files are enormous.
I used to use HD Log but found it very cumbersome. Is MXF4Mac a similar similar app or less elaborate? Does it really transcode faster than Log and Transfer?

Not to mention humble as well :O
Sorry I couldn’t resist. But I can’t be of much help with the temperatures though. It was only 89 degrees here today and I’m a block of the ocean!

The timecode track on edit to tape is accurate. It’s the Kona timecode overlay window that displays the wrong timecode. So when I do outputs, to tape or DVD recorders, I have to use the FCP timecode reader on a nested sequence because it works and Kona doesn’t.
What I can’t believe is that you don’t have to offset you audio by one frame when you do a non-native output. The tech support guys at AJA had told me years ago that when ever the Kona cards has to process video, such as: up, down or cross convert, that the video is delayed and the audio has to be delayed manually in order to stay in sync.
So when I cross convert DVCPro 720p to DVCPro 1080i to an HD deck I have to delay audio by 1 frame. In fact some Quality Control reports from Nat Geo and Discovery International, have said it is actually 1 field not 1 frame. So If you don’t do that with your gear and Kona cards I’d like to know your “voodoo” because nobody in my circles has had the same luck.
I know Kona will convert to ProRes and that the new codecs didn’t exist back then!!!! that is precisely my point, Apple has made AVC Intra native and I want to use it now since I already paid for it last week! If you bought a new Ferrari and they said “you can’t DRIVE it until Exxon releases the updated fuel for it” would you be content to sit in your driveway and listen to the radio?
Finally, No I don’t expect “Apple and third party vendors to release software / updates all on the same day”. I’m too old, bitter and jaded to believe that anymore. But I still whine about the fact that it would be some much better for “their clients” if they did. ,)

Yes David, I want a nice old crusty blue cheese with whine!
Man you L.A. guys are way to passive. I though you guys and us Vancouverites were like brothers ya know? But you beat us hands down in the chill department. The irony is us Canadian’s really know what “chill” feels like. 😉

Boy I didn’t realize I would ruffle so many AJA feathers…
Yes Walter I’m aware of the relationship between Apple and AJA. AJA is a great company with great customer support but they are not without their flaws. As for “You would also know that AJA doesn’t release anything until it absolutely works.” well I disagree. If you have ever tried to move the timecode window or witnessed how inaccurate the timecode is when outputting DVCPRO 720 or maybe the fact that you always have to offset audio every time you do an up, down or cross converted edit to tape should be proof that they release many products before their time.
The current driver do work for the most part but as Shane reported the new codecs don’t show up. And I’m sure that we, as will other list members, find more issues before AJA releases their update. I need to do my updates now while I’m between projects. It’s just too bad that we can’t take advantage of new features like native AVC Intra support until our next series.
All I’m saying is that it would be nice if it all happened at the same time for a change.
