I would recommend going to https://www.fcpeffects.com. You can download their free Drop Shadow effect and they have many more great effects for FCPX!

The Keyer in FCPX is AMAZING! It’s lightening fast and very clean. I used to hate Chroma Keying using AdvantEdge software from Ultimatte. It keyed well, but was glacially slow. With the Keyer in FCPX, I drop it on the clip and the green screen is gone…immediately. Using the sliders I will touch up a bit and I’m ready to go…and I can do this on a 2.3Ghz Core i7 MacBook Pro with 16GB of RAM. Background rendering is fairly fast and I can continue editing immediately. For the keyer alone, FCPX is worth the price.

Thanks for the input everyone. I shoot corporate training and informational videos in XDCAM EX 1080p 30 that are edited in FCS and delivered on DVD. I have an Ikan V8000HDMI, using component. It’s clear, but not as sharp as I want for critical focus. I just received a SmallHD DP1 and it is a beautiful monitor. The sharpness and color accuracy is fantastic, and the build quality is the best I’ve seen yet in a small on-camera monitor. And using Component from my EX3 look wonderful. I purchased their “bundle” and I’m very happy I did. Problem solved!

    Thanks Everyone!

I have been using a Porta Brace case for the HVX-200 and it works great. It holds the HVX-200, batteries, two firestores, chargers, and assorted cables. It protects the camera well, is built like a tank and fit perfectly into any overhead compartment, I have carried it all over the US and Mexico without any problems.

I own and regularly use the Glidecam SmoothShooter/4000 and a Glidecam V-25 stabilizer. I use the Smooth Shooter/4000 combination with an HVX-200 camera on fashion videos where I shoot for 5 days and wear the unit for hours at a time. I find it to work very well and find that this setup gives me the ability to shoot for extented periods of time without fatigue, and my shots are very compelling. On other retail training productions, I find myself using the Glidecam V-25 almost exclusively. I shoot b-roll and other items like sales scenarios with it and then add a PeoplePrompter teleprompter to the sled, with the HVX-200 for narration shots. It adds a sense of realism to what could be an otherwise static and boring shot. I find my target audience, which is High School through post College age people responde very well to this technique. I feel the Glidecam products are unmatched when you really look at price/performance and give the best “bang-for-the-buck” in the industry.

I’ve been using a Firestore FS-4 for almost a year and I do sometimes shoot all day. I simply purchased a Bescor 12 volt battery belt, (with only one battery pack, not packs across the entire belt,) and went to radio Shack and purchased a cig lighter cable and adapted the correct plug and I can shoot all day with this set-up. The Firestore is clipped to my belt so I can monitor it. This set-up is far cheaper than using a number of Firestore batteries and it works flawlessly. As for being tethered to the camera with a firewire cable, all I can say is just get used to it. It really isn’t that bad! And the time I save by not having to digitize is worth its weight in gold!

Just be sure that all of the effects you have added to any text, (shadows, kerning, etc), are all applied from within Title 3D and not from FCP. This new version seems to be very particular to wanting everything coming from within the Boris Title 3D application.

    Hope this helps!

You should really look at the Ikegami HL-DV7A. I had to make the same decision you are making and I just purchased the Ikegami. It has great specs, a Great reputation, shoots DVCAM and can shoot in 4:3 and 16:9.

B&H has it in your price range.
