you might search for “macvidcards” and “GTX 570”. He seems to have taken a lot of the headaches out of using this card in a Mac Pro. I just placed my order this morning.

Ceri — HDCam doesn’t support an alpha.

Usually, graphic elements that need to be keyed are layed off in two passes: a matte pass and a fill. The matte is just the black/white-shades-of-gray alpha element, and the fill has been modified to correctly show transparent pixels when keyed.

You give the tape to someone, they re-digitize the matte and fill (or copy them to another tape deck), sync them up and use the former to key the latter.

    hope this helps,

Looks to me like it was shot that way, nimble fingers on the zoom ring.
You might be able to simulate it in After Effects with Scale or Position keyframes and some motion blur.

Or, find a camera with a quick manual zoom, find a wall with good tracking points, record the zoom action to whatever music track you want, track the zooms in After Effects and then apply that track to your master shot.

(prolly a lot easier to shoot it that way in the first place)

I use a FW800 Voyager and two other docks connected by eSATA all the time. Occasionally a drive won’t mount when I put it in, but powering down the dock and reseating the drive usually fixes the problem. I’m constantly pulling media from older projects, so it’s pretty much a no-brainer. Media on the Voyager’s FW800 sometimes balks, but footage on the eSATA docks plays smoothly.

John, one thing you might check is the stabilization setting on your camera. I’ve noticed if it’s on, when I do a tripod pan I get a similar whiplash effect as the camera tries to compensate for the lateral motion.

    good luck,

I have exactly the same complaint about PP. I use a small Bamboo, and it’s very frustrating to have clips jumping all over the place. The only solution I’ve found is to drag a clip and then hold the stylus PERFECTLY STILL for about a half second before letting go. Not an ideal fix.

  • Chris, you probably know this, but displaying waveforms in a timeline is a toggle:
apple key + option key + w turns it on and off. Did you try that?

Laura, all I can do is recommend the advice of a professional before you do lasting (or more lasting) damage. I took anti-inflammatories and wore a wrist brace for many months, and had to unlearn a lot of bad habits before I started to get better.

Sometimes it’s not the fault of the input device (mouse, tablet, trackball) but their positions relative to the editor and monitors. Your editing posture can be a factor, too. You will probably have to try a variety of things before you hit on the right combination.

Sorry if I’m telling you things you already know,

    Greg

    Hi, Laura.

I feel your pain — after years of mousing (right-handed) and shuttling a linear editor, I developed carpal tunnel in my right wrist. To take the load off, I started using a stylus and tablet instead of a mouse (I write left-handed).

I haven’t had a mouse hooked to my Mac in years. I use the flat Mac keyboard and a small Bamboo tablet. Works great and no more wrist strain. Plus, the tablet is a huge help in Photoshop and After Effects.

    good luck,
