    Hi there,

I’m working on a music video and the director has asked if I could replicate the effect that is in this red hot chilli peppers video.

At 3.36 theres a zooming in and out effect. It doesn’t look like a jump cut, but it also doesn’t look like zooming in and out with key frames.

Is this something I can do in Final Cut or After Effects?

Looks to me like it was shot that way, nimble fingers on the zoom ring.
You might be able to simulate it in After Effects with Scale or Position keyframes and some motion blur.

Or, find a camera with a quick manual zoom, find a wall with good tracking points, record the zoom action to whatever music track you want, track the zooms in After Effects and then apply that track to your master shot.

(prolly a lot easier to shoot it that way in the first place)

    best,
