Plural eyes is a solid program but ever since Premiere incorporated syncing into it’s features, there’s no need for Plural eyes at all.

Before starting the edit you should’ve transcoded the video file to an edit friendly codec- i.e., Pro res or DNxHD.

Also pre-render any AE comps. Dynamic linking is really more of a PR concept than a usable feature.

I have the GTX970 in a dual monitor setup but I’m outputting my main image through a Blackmagic 4k mini-monitor so I haven’t encountered this. My first step would be to make sure all drivers are up to date:

October 1, 2018 at 6:49 pm in reply to: Syncing audio files

quick way to sync it all is to input all of the secondary audio into the same bin as your video files. highlight everything and then right click and select “create multicam source sequence.” It will then attempt to sync every matching clip. This will take some time if you have a lot of media.

  • [David Patterson] ” I have experience problems related to custom workspaces (like windows popping up where you can’t grab the title bar to move them).”

This is a mac only bug. There are some Premiere bugs on the windows side as well but they are minor. For whatever reason, the mac platform seems more affected.

[Jong Cardenas] “Last week I also installed and used 3 plugins from motionarray which worked fine.”

Uninstall the plugins and see if Premiere becomes more stable. Also, if you’re going to transcode footage, always transcode to an edit friendly codec like pro res or dnxhd and not h264.

September 28, 2018 at 3:12 pm in reply to: Multicam and working from the Source Window?

Russ, sorry for not fully understanding your question.

multicam sequences are really just modified clips. You can think of a multicam sequence as exactly the same as any other clip. Load the multicam sequence into your source monitor, set an in and out point and then insert or overwrite edit it into your timeline.

The one option with multicam sequences is that they can be edited into the timeline as a nested file or as individual clips. You select this by clicking on the icon which is located in the top left corner of the timeline window

If it was me, I’d start with a website like this: https://www.imsdb.com

September 24, 2018 at 5:27 pm in reply to: iMac Pro vs PC performance

[Joe Marler] “I’d be interested if someone with PP 12.1.2 and a contemporary Windows machine could try JKL timeline responsiveness at 1/4 res for a 4k H264 timeline with “Enable hardware accelerated decoding” both on and off, and observe any difference. It is conceivable H264 decoding works *better* on Windows than Mac. However this wasn’t his main issue — he got side-tracked mentioning it, and it has nothing to do with C200 RAW decode performance.”

My PC system is relatively contemporary even though my CPU is a few years old I have a ton of ram and I work off of NVMe drives. I tested a mxf wrapped 4k H264 file shot on a CANON, EOS C300 Mark II. Premiere has no issues with this file at all in full res much less 1/4 quality. JKL is without hiccup. It also makes no difference whether “Enable hardware accelerated decoding” is turned on or off. Premiere performs identically.

I’ve also worked on the new imac pro. It’s a very nice computer and it’s very fast. Did I notice my work-flow significantly better as a result of being on the new hardware? no. However, the new machine runs circles around the last generation of imacs in terms of performance.
