December 8, 2005 at 8:19 pm in reply to: XL2 24p Acquisition (timeline Audio Sync problem)The issue that I have pin pointed after hours of Tech support from Adobe, Canon and Firestore is this:
There are two modes of 24p (3:2) and (2:3:3:2).
Canon shoots in both modes. Firestore writes an .avi file in only one mode (3:2) and PPro only has settings in one mode (2:3:3:2)
Thus, From Canon to Firestore to FCP works fine. Canon to Firestore to PPro will not work. You have to manually capture the 24p footage direct from Camera.
We looked thoroughly at the properties of both .avi files in one bin and the difference was that the file coming from tape was internally pulled down to a 29.97 rate for editing. The file directly from the firestore still had a frame rate of 23.98, making it unable to edit in a PPro software.
The work arounds were futal as well. Be it exports and re-imports or project settings being manipulate. Nothing in PPro allows you to edit a Firestore data file at 24p (3:2) mode. Firestore will not allow a (2:3:3:2) Mode to be written.
Conclusion for any one who cares is this; until PPro or Firestore get together to support one another’s modes, there is no way to use DTE technology in PPro for 24p footage.

Yes, the .avi file was placed onto a loca drive first then imported.
Secondly, I have just captured directly from Canon XL2 into PPro and it works fine.

Not yet, I will try there as well. thanks.
I have seen it done from a Professional Hollywood style DVD inserted into my computer. The DVD-ROM content pops up vs. the DVD video player. Games and tons of web interaction is available and two, you can choose to play DVD Video from that DVD-ROM content.
Wish I knew…thanks again.

Yeah, it comes with Flash Pro as well. So yes, you have to do a file/Export/FLV for one comp at a time and I don’t have any ratio/size attributes open to change.
I was reading up on the New VP6 by On2 Tech about encoding to FLV and it was stated that it is prime to encode directly from source if possible. Well that would be AE or any NLE or something. Yet its set up to do batch encodes by third parties, until flash 8 is here finally. 🙂

Genelec seems to be the highest standards out there for Pro-Audio monitors.

cool,
so let me sum this up……you believe we can just connect two monitors via sound card? And that will be our audio monitoring set up? I had always thought that a mixing I/O board was needed. Thats why I am at a lost on the audio……..lol.
Thanx.

Audio Card: SoundBlaster Audigy 2 ZS Platinum Pro
Video Card: NVIDIA Quadro FX 540 Pro Video Edition (with S-video and component out break out box)
Don’t know if I need mixer board or not, that was one of the needed answers.
For the time being and next 9 months or so, it will be mainly MiniDV 24p capture to FireStore FS-4 and then dumped onto the Fiber SAN. Pulled into Adobe Software for everything. From Audition, to Premiere Pro, to After Effects or Encore. Also into FLV for Macromedia as well for the web.
There has been talk to step up to Uncompressed HD. But not for a while.
AVI was trying to load them up with AVID Nitris and Unity for over 600k a piece. Just on the editing alone. I don’t recall the post audio set up. The studio engineers are setting up and spec’ing out the Audio Control room for the sound stage. And we are not in need of a full on Audio Pro Tools edit bay, just the basics within our Edit bays on our Adobe Software.
So basically as far as I understand, we need Two Monitors, a board, for capture if need be but for output as well to the monitors and thats it???? But hope that helps you help me….lol
Later.

Thank you for your reply,
I called up boxx and have two beautiful boxes on the way with them being powered by all adobe/macromedia and Intel Dual Xeon Hyper 3.6’s and 8gigs of RAM. Ummm, but they did not have set up for monitoring and audio????? I have to get Monitors and Audio gear through elsewhere?
Might you have a suggestion? I actually have a great place for viewing and testing its just the audio gear is the hard part.
ie…. AVI consultants spec’d us out some ourtrageous numbers on production and post audio gear. But that didn’t seem to be compatable like you said with current hardware. I didn’t know it would be that hard to grab some audio gear for post….lol
Thanx Brant.
