Shooting on the Canon XL-2 24p mode 2:3:3:2 pull down.

Editing in PPro 1.5 Boxx workstation, dual Xeon Processors. Settings are the pull up for DV playback and 24fps. Under the new Panasonic Presets. Customizing the settings to Playback on a Blackmagic Decklink.

Have tried video for windows and DV Playback.

Everywhere these clips are viewed, the Audio is synced correctly. When viewing in the timeline of PPro, the audio is lagging tremendously.

Also, these clips are captured on tape roll and output to a DV Firestore as well. with the settings on the Firestore at AVI type 2 (24p).

I haven’t tried capturing the clips via tape yet. When viewing the avi clip via WMedia player, its fine.

I am assuming its a PPro issue!!

    Thanks in advance.

Have you moved the clips from the Firestore to an internal drive yet? It could be an issue with how Premiere is pulling the data off the drive.

Otherwise I would go ahead and compare it to capturing from tape.

Yes, the .avi file was placed onto a loca drive first then imported.

Secondly, I have just captured directly from Canon XL2 into PPro and it works fine.

The issue that I have pin pointed after hours of Tech support from Adobe, Canon and Firestore is this:

There are two modes of 24p (3:2) and (2:3:3:2).

Canon shoots in both modes. Firestore writes an .avi file in only one mode (3:2) and PPro only has settings in one mode (2:3:3:2)

Thus, From Canon to Firestore to FCP works fine. Canon to Firestore to PPro will not work. You have to manually capture the 24p footage direct from Camera.

We looked thoroughly at the properties of both .avi files in one bin and the difference was that the file coming from tape was internally pulled down to a 29.97 rate for editing. The file directly from the firestore still had a frame rate of 23.98, making it unable to edit in a PPro software.

The work arounds were futal as well. Be it exports and re-imports or project settings being manipulate. Nothing in PPro allows you to edit a Firestore data file at 24p (3:2) mode. Firestore will not allow a (2:3:3:2) Mode to be written.

Conclusion for any one who cares is this; until PPro or Firestore get together to support on another’s modes, there is no way to use DTE technology in PPro for 24p footage.
