    To add onto Walter’s comment

Remember that quality is key. Just because you own a gourmet oven, doesn’t mean that you can decide to be a gourmet chef. The same holds true for video. The tools do not make the producer or editor.

What ever you put on the air represents you. Have a poor quality show, and people will not take you seriously. It will be quite the contrary.

For graphics, consider looking at Digital Juice. They have many different backgrounds and lower third titles that work great in Final Cut Pro.

Thanks so much for the feedback. My situation is different in the way that typically I’ll produce and direct a show, and hire a freelance crew. Sometimes I use their gear and sometimes my gear. If the project is cancelled, my freelance crew will still want to be paid. I’m not about to eat that cost. So how do you deal with cancellations with a new client and a freelance crew? Now what if it rains?

Yep…I had my new battery charging and my wife went an plugged it in to find something for a client. Everything seems fine except for hotmail. So I created a new user account, and everything seems good… I just wanted to know the best way of transferring all of my files, applications, and settings from my old user account to the new one. Any step by step directions would be helpful.

I tend to hire a full crew for every shoot. Most often it’s 3 person crew and maybe make-up. Usually me gear. I usually specify 48 hours on a contract, which requires full payment if cancelled. is this too harsh?

The other question is weather. What about doing an outside shoot with a hired freelance crew, and it’s raining that day? How do you specify cancellation in a contract due to weather. Again, I state that the clent is responsible for all crew fees resulting in cancellation due to weather. Is this reasonable?

    Here’s 2 stories for ya.

    1. I was working in a large corp, as the manager of video production (one man band) A client in a field office shot their footage for me to edit. They were outside on a windy day.
Every 5-6 seconds there would be something passing in front of the lens. I couldn’t figure out what the problem was, until I froze the image, and the word Sony appeared on screen. The same Sony emblem that happened to be on their lens cap, which was tied to the camera in the wind.

    2. Another internal client shot their own spokesperson outside their restaurant, which was next to the road. They only used the on-camera mike. Apparently at an equal distance between the camera and the spokesperson was a puddle in the road. Every time a car passed as you would hear the splash of tires going through the puddle. Yet the spokesperson continued talking. The client asked me to remove the splash sounds. Wondered why I couln’t do it in our new $1.5 Million studio.
