For me, I only know Media 100. So I bought Media 100HDe with the AJA Oem and then also bought FCP studio. I created a dual boot system. This allowed me to edit under tight deadlines on M100 while I learned the FCP interface. Now often I decide if I’ll edit a specific project om M100 or FCP, depending on the show.

I have to admit, I’m more of a producer/director/editor, so I’m not reall an editior with alot of time to tinker. This system has helped me a great deal. It worf flawlessly!!!

No Kidding! But for some reason they think they will have to make various changes down the road and feel that their in-house department can handle it, although for some reason they didn’t feel they could initially handle the edit.

Thnaks for your help David. That was my thought all along. However, they also want to have the source files so they can posibly re-edit later on. Is there a way I can convert all used media from 8 bit uncompressed to DV50? Or should i just give them all media as uncompressed 8 bit and let them deal with that? Thanks.

That’s not an option as they do not have the means of recapturing Beta SP footage. As a matter of fact they want all clips as DV instead, so they can re-edit. My dliemma is they want only the clips used in the video. Any idea how to just export those clips as DV files?

Thanks David. So if they want all of the video files and titles, do I need to save everything as DV 50? or do I just give them uncompressed 8 Bit quicktime files? They want me to give them the project file and all video clips as well as all livetype graphics.

Point well taken I never burn bridges, but I’m starting to get very irritated with these clients. The also complained about the color gel we used as a background, even though 6 clients were watching the screen during the shoot and approved

handle this type of file.
Our clients know this and it should work. We transfer large files every
day.
You stated the file is 10 gigs it will handle it.

We’ll see. The good news is it’s a 7 minute show with talking heads and graphic builds on livetype. Only one cut of music (don’t ask) and the on-camera folks doing the VO as well.

Thanks for the feedback. Yep, something is definitely strange. It’s a case of a client not knowing what they want, but once they see the edited show, they know what they DON’T want. Then they tell me they have an in-house FCP suite!??! Why was I editing in the first place? I could have just sent them the raw camera tapes! However I made a good chunk of change on this project. I think they have impossible clients themselves, and it’s just rolling downhill.

Thanks for your responses. This client has awful communication skills which have reared their ugly head quite a few times during this project. At this point the client is not someone who will be a repeat client, so I’m not worried about “giving them more than they expect” Are you suggesting I can’t upload uncompressed footage to their FTP site? Should the Project file contain everything that they need if I were to send them the raw Beta SP tapes?

Since they are in the Northeast US and I’m in the Southeast US they think this may be the quickest way. If so, how can I now organize my project in a useable for for them? Thanks.

I’ve had the opposite request from a client. I edited a program as 8 bit un-compressed. The client wanted to author themselves so they asked me for a DV quicktime. Now of course they are complaining because the graphics are jagged. I told them it’s a result of compressing the file to DV. Is that correct?
