No Really Shane. And it’s not for one specific video file. I’ve had this happening for years with all of my files.

(ON the track level, do the levels look low, or do they look normal?) They look low and sound low

(Look at the master fader on the far right….is it at Zero, or is it lower?)

The master fader is at zero.

I know how to set audio levels, I’m just perplexed as to why I always need to boot my levels.

Mark it’s quite easy. We shoot our video using either direct mic to camera input on our camera. That could be a C300 or an EX1.

Then I import that into my FCP system. It doesn’t matter what camera or crew I use, it just always seems like I need to boost up the gain in FCP 7 as much as it will allow.

Does anybody else have a thought as to why my audio seems to always be low in FCP 7? Even though the recorded camera audio is at a good level?

Peak levels in FCP are at -28db. In camera with a professional audio guy they are around -6 to -12db.

Thanks Shane. It doesn’t matter. Even if I only record on one channel in camera, the audio level is sill low. Is there something in preferences or system set-up that may be causing this?

February 22, 2016 at 10:11 pm in reply to: What are your terms for payment?

This is the reason why EVERY project needs a signed agreement. Also, for EVERY project, we require full payment before we send the client their video. Yes, if it’s a large client that we do lots of work for, we have some flexibility. Most large companies have a way of paying invoices quickly.

I worked for major corporations for many years, and would always pay our freelancers immediately. We’re not in the business of financing a company’s video project.

So far we’ve never been stiffed on a project, and have not needed to chase down payment.

Not a problem Ned. I also spent time preparing a proposal and an agreement. I sent him questions and he answered them. I told him his requested price was too low give the scope of the project. And he easily agreed to the new number. I think what threw him off was that I requested payment a month in advance, and sent him a legal agreement. I never heard back from him even though I sent him about 5 emails.

I hope these guys get nailed. Thanks for all you’ve done for others in the industry. Let me know if anything happens.

  • As far as we’re concerned, our business runs from our home location. That’s where we pay taxes.

    Hi Ned,

No I didn’t mention you. I just wrote this:

Apparently your request was not real, and you’re running a scam. I guess asking for a check a month in advance along with a signing a legal agreement was too much for you!

    SHAME ON YOU!!

Go after him Ned, and if you need a witness, I’m here.

    Greg
