Sorry but I’m still not getting it. I have one storyline, and now have a build of text above it. I just want each line of text to fade it at the correct mark.
In FCP 7 you could add your text, add your dissolves and then move them to make them fade in more precisely. I have no idea how to select a container in 10.3 Can you help me?

Todd – I’m thinking he meant a 2TB drive. There’s not a lot of raw footage you can put on a 2 GB Thumb drive.

Probably too late now, but I either ask the client to send me a drive and I load the footage and send it back using their FedEx number. Otherwise I purchase a drive, charge the client for it, and ship for an additional fee.
It would be rare for a client to send me back my drive.

Thanks for your help Bret. But what I did was create several timelines with different types of shots, and I’m copying and pasting them into my current first cut project timeline. I’m not using the magnetic timeline, but copying all clips to the track above that timeline. Just razor blading a clip and hitting delete does not close the gap. Thoughts?
Also, while copying and pasting the clips into my first cut timeline, it copies the audio also. The audio is just background noise of my crew talking to each other. So I don’t want it these. I’m cutting to a voice track and music track already laid in. How can I easily get rid of that background audio

To Mark’s point where he says that the difference in timing ” has to be accommodated in the planning before the shoot, so the shots have longer “handles” on them to help the timing work out”. That’s not always true or possible.
We often translate client videos into other languages. Experienced translation companies will “adapt” the transcript properly and use certain words that give the same meaning, but in a shortened form. This allows us to keep the same timing of the original video, hit the key marks in the video, and have the subtitles read at a reasonable (readable) speed.
The mistake many people make is trying to translate their videos without understanding how the professionals do it. Just because someone can translate a print piece, does not mean they can properly translate a video and keep the proper timing intact.

I’m not a lawyer but you really can’t add any videos to your website as “fair use” You ALWAYS have to get written permission.
The copyright owner has to give you permission to republish the video or deny you the permission. If the owner wishes, they can also allow you to republish the video only if you pay them certain royalties.
There are also instances where you should NOT embed a YouTube video. If the video you see is of some commercial TV show or movie, it is not wise to embed it. While it is of course possible that the commercial TV or movie company put up the video themselves and want others to embed it, there is also a chance that someone other than the copyright owners has illegally uploaded the video. Embedding such videos puts your site (and you) at risk. You may have the most innocent of intentions, but if the copyright owner takes you to court, you’ll end up spending money, wasting time, worrying unnecessarily, just to prove your innocence. It’s simply not worth it.
