Actually even FCP 7 allowed you to choose the exact frame rate for an effect. That worked fine.

Bret do you think you can answer this question. You seem to be the only one on this forum.

I’m doing a multicam project. All along on the first 7 projects, I’ve been able to to cut to a camera angle then if needed, watch all of the angles in the viewer and just drag the cut point a few frames to make sure I don’t see a bump of the camera. I’m working on the next project and for some reason when I try to drag a few frames one way or the other, I lose sight of the 3 camera angles, so I can’t get a precise edit. If I go back to a previous project it all works fine.

Nothing has changed. Did I inadvertently click on something? This is very weird. Not helpful for a 90 minute video with many cuts.

Thanks Bret! That really is terrible! There should be frame durations instead of seconds. I’ve been editing for 25 years and never saw where I would have to set a duration preference at 67.

Thanks so much Oliver and Michael. So if I have 6 minutes of regular interview footage and 3 minutes of 4K Broll footage, do I just edit the entire project as a proxy video project? If so, can I just highlight all of the clips in the project and transcode them to proxy without having to do that in the browser? All of the interview clips are also ready razor bladed and laid out perfectly.

Michael, won’t optimizing the clips slow down playback?

Thanks Oliver. This is very helpful. When you say other NLEs would also have the same “bloating” issue, do you know if this applies to Premier?

Hi Oliver, No need for apologies. I appreciate your help!!!

    To answer your questions

    1) I believe I imported the media to be left in place. But if I made an error here, can I fix this? If so How?

    2) Yes, I believe I set it to create optimized media. How can I fix this?

    3) Yes, I always have background rendering on. Is the alternative just rendering the final project at the end?

Lastly, I will end up with about 20 Multicam projects at the end of this. Would you suggest that I create 20 individual libraries?

Thanks so very much for your help!!!!

    Hi Oliver,

I’m not quite sure I understand what you’re saying and how this will help me with this project moving forward.

Here are my questions. First let me say that I have imported all footage to an external 4 TB Hard Drive. My footage is 1.6 TB in size and the FCPX Library is now 2.04 TB in size.

    1. Why is my Library so large since I imported the footage but thought I left them in place on the External drive. Have I inadvertently copied the footage to the Library (doubling the size of this project and filling my hard drive? How can I fix this?

    2. I need to add more footage to the second angle of my Multicam, but I’m out of Space. How can I fix this?

    3. How does turning off background rendering help? Do I not need that for editing a Multicam? Would I just render everything at the end?

    Thanks so much.
