I’ve been reading here and there about PC HD/BR DVD recorders that will be coming out shortly. But as always with new technology its going to be super expensive. I am sure we will be able to burn to these new disc formats once Adobe updates Encore for it. I haven’t really seen any “special features” designated exclusivly for HD/BR other than the massive space. I’d wait til we get at least an 8x recorder out there before jumping the bandwagon. I don’t want to deal with any problems arising from the first generation batches of those recorders.

I got my set up from acedemicsuperstore.com
Since I work for the public school system, I was eligible to buy the adobe video collection which included AE 6.5, PP 1.5, Encore 1.5 , Audition 1.5 (dont need it, don’t like it, don’t use it), PS CS and there books (giants :O) Funny thing is that althought its the education version and all the splash screens are taged with educational release, only AE doesn’t have that tag 😛 But then 2 months later they release CS2 and Illustrator CS2 🙁 Im ok with PS but need to get an update to Illustrator as Im still on version 9 :O

i found that Encore’s built in encoder does a good job, however its slow as a snail even on a p4-3ghz with 2 gb of ram. Think thats fustrating, wait til you manually do subtitles for your project. it makes the who program slow down to a crawl to the point where it makes you want to pull your hair out 🙁 I’ve had a few crashes and corrupt files because of this :_(

Thanks Tim…i did a quick test and yep it is possible. However I decided to not use the stuff from my motion graphics class, instead I will focus on my students illustrator work. After doing an early estimate , it looks like im gonna need all the space I can use on that disc. I will just include an original disc for the other one :)..thanks again.

i agree, use some *slight* blur on your sharp stuff.. I am trying to put my logo stuff on my portfolio dvd at this time and a lot of it is sharp illustrator stuff so I use a bit of a blur to smooth it out or I get that shimmering effect on the crt tv 😐

  • I actually had this problem solved a few months back and had a perfect circle that didn’t wobble when I applied that dotted line effect (from the tutorial here). I had some really cool circular rotations I was using for a dvd project for a clinet that eventually went to the back burner because it looked cool, but just didn’t go with the rest of the main dvd menus(stuck it in the easter egg section as a background instead). When I was cleaning out the old unused files I accidently deleted the *.ai files and didn’t realize it til a few days later.

What I am trying to get is that look in the background animations of the main menu screens of the PC game Republic Commando that came out last year. It had various circular lock on effects and so on. As soon as I figure out how to screen capture that main menu I will post it here for an example.

  • thanks i will try that.

i bought one of these about 5 years ago, thinking it would greatly improve my on screen skills in photoshop/illustrator. I got the wacom 4×6 tablet because I didn’t have enough money for something bigger. Althought it was ok at first, it takes a while to get use to the pen itself. To be honest, the drawing area is so small you can run off the drawing area really quick. If you have the money go with a bigger size. The bigger the better. Unfortuntly your looking at several hundred dollars for one that might be very comfortible for you. I wish these were a bit cheaper as the same size tablet i have still runs about 100 bucks, the same i paid 5 years ago 🙁

btw-i stopped using it 6 months after I bought it 🙁

hey I am using the DRU 710a and I am thinking the problem might be the software that came with your drive..Encore is flicky with using other software installed on the same machine as it (nero). Remove any burning software other than encore and it *should* clear your problem. Let me know if that works.
