Looks like they need re-installing from the original downloads or media then.

  • Thanks Don! I think all the original poster has to do is to duplicate the DV NTSC Advanced Pulldown removal easy setup and modify it with an “anamorphic on”, and then the footage will come in ready to go onto the timeline. You can also take any footage that has been captured, and in the browser just turn on the anamorphic.

Timeline should be 23.98fps and anamorphic. That should do it. Failing that, thanks for posting the link to my article as that clears up most things.

Thanks! The plan has been to get the software working before the end of the year, but I must admit, I really underestimated how much time young baby Megan would take, but she’s worth it!

  • No, the tape is irrellevent. It either works or it doesn’t. This isn’t analogue video where the tape S/N plays a part in the picture quality.

Sounds to me like, perhaps gain was up on the camera, or something like that, or shutter speed or something else in the settings. Hard to tell without seeing it though.

  • Digital video either works or it doesn’t. With DV, you either see dropout or you don’t, so unless you’re seeing obvious dropout, I don’t think the tape is an issue. Similarly, I don’t think even the worst DV tape will effect the picture in the way you desribe – you might get obvious dropout, but that’s it.

For 24pA you’ve got to remove the pulldown so that you’re using 23.98fps media on a 23.98fps timeline. Viewing 24pA as 24pA without the pulldown removed will look a bit artifacty in terms of motion stutter. That’s what I’d check first.

Failing that, is there any way you can post an image of what’s going on for us to look at??

As for plugins, the only thing to do is download the demo and try them on YOUR footage. What thing in particular are you looking for??

Check file permissions in the finder, using “get info”. Make sure they’re all “read and write”.

Looks like I’m going to have to try much harder to get my darn software uprezzer working. I think I’ve figured out how to run the entire algorithm now on the GPU, but it’s going to take some programming to get it working, but when it does…. Watch out Terranex, you’ll no longer be best 🙂

Is that the holographic disc stuff? Sounds very promising, but is not currently available, and we don’t know the robustness of the media for on-location use. I still think recording to solid state memory is a good thing, but I think holographics will be perfect for backups and long term storage. Just like with cameras where you use the appropriate camera for the job (which your post made a very good point of), you use the right recording technology for the job, and suitability-wise, I don’t see anything better than solid state memory. However, as you say, price is an issue, and it’s falling. Also, as Panasonic manufacure more of the P2 cards, their manufacturing costs will fall, as well as the RAM costs that are falling.

I just like how it looks. I find that too high a shutter speed looks odd, I guess 1/500th as suggested sounded rather high to me. I guess that if normal video looks fine at 1/60th, for the same kind of look at say 50%, then 1/120th might be more appropriate. Also, as it sounds like we don’t know which video will be slowed down, and which will not, that shooting it all at high shutter speed might look odd… So nothing definate from me, just thoughts….
