Does anyone out there know of a inexpensive solution for upconverting SD to HD with good results? I own a Kona2 card that upconverts but I’m not exactly happy with the results.

    Greg,

From what i’ve seen and heard, the only thing better than what you have is a Terenex converter, but that’s gonna cost you. I’ve heard the K2 upconvert is awesome, you must be doing something wrong.

Actually Chris, it’s ok for many jobs, but if you have a lot of round surfaces, you’ll see the jaggies from the interlace lines being stretched out. We really need a line doubler to smooth out the footage even better. It will work depending on the final application, for broadcast, you probably want something with a line doubler, like the Terranex I suggested in the AJA forum.

Greg, you need to find a facility that has the Terranex and have your footage tranferred there if you want pristine results. http://www.cinefilmlab.com here in Atlanta is a top of the line film to tape, tape to tape transfer facility and really really nice guys to boot. As for Mark or Ron when you call.

Looks like I’m going to have to try much harder to get my darn software uprezzer working. I think I’ve figured out how to run the entire algorithm now on the GPU, but it’s going to take some programming to get it working, but when it does…. Watch out Terranex, you’ll no longer be best 🙂

Thanks! The plan has been to get the software working before the end of the year, but I must admit, I really underestimated how much time young baby Megan would take, but she’s worth it!
