But chroma sampling is just that – how many luma samples you have for each chroma sample. In the case of HDCAM, you have 3 luma sample to 1 chroma sample, hence 3:1:1. Chroma sampling is all about ratio, not absolute value! Calling “4:2:2” in HD as 22:11:11 went out with ark and it’s a notation that is no longer used. 22/8 != 3 either, so calling HDCAM 22:8:8 is not correct either.

PhotoJPEG75% is very good indeed, but it still lacks compared to uncompressed on “extreme” colour correction, where you’ll start to see compression artifacts. However, it’s still much better than the “DV” codecs at SD or HD.

Does not AE always work in RGB so you’ve always got a RGB to Y’CbCr transform in there??
I’d always render out of AE as RGB, ie Animation 100%, and then bring that to FCP to turn into the timeline codec.

A few seconds, say 3, in native DVCproHD codec. Can you put a clip up somewhere for me to download?

Try 75% then and see if that’s better.
For pulldown removal, I don’t think CT can for 2:3:3:2. If you get me a clip, I can see if I can adapt my G Pulldown Remove too to do it though.

At 100% it’s RGB. At 75% it’s Y’CbCr. I have seen gamma issues on occaision, but that’s a big FCP issue, rather than with a specific codec.

Cinema Tools does’t do this kind of conversion though….
25p can be slowed to 24p using Cinema Tools, though, but then you still need to add in 3:2 pulldown to go to NTSC. FCP will do that on playout to DV tape, or some cards like Decklink and Kona can also add it on playout.
Or, you can use my Standards Converter plugin to go from 25p to 29.97fps and this usually looks awesome on 16mm footage, so I’d try that also.

Yes, use “G Film Converter” NTSC to Film option on a 24p timeline with normal NTSC interlaced video – works great.
