Usually PAL is upper, but it’s mostly capture card dependent on what it and the codec want. Aren’t fields pesky and annoying 🙂
For what it’s worth, all HD is upper.

Ok, conversion in terms of field order looks fine. Both appear to be lower field PAL. However, the frame size is still 720×480 which is not PAL. FPS is correct at 25fps.
So, make sure you’ve in a full 720×576 PAL timeline, 25fps.
To increase the sharpness of the final render (maybe a little more jerky, but you can perhaps fine a balance) drop the motion blur parameter to around 15%.
Other than that they look fine.

After the first release of AIC when they fixed the bugs, it looks great, and doesn’t loose you resolution like going from HDV to DVCproHD….. There’s no reason to use DVCproHD unless that’s the deck you’re mastering to. Remember AIC was designed specifically for transcoding HDV into, whereas DVCproHD was not.

Yup, I know it’s tricky. I had to buy a multi-standard TV just to code this stuff in the first place, and I know that’s a luxury. If there’s any way you can ftp a compressed (but not too compressed as to remove the field structure) I can test here for you though.

Quicktime normally doesn’t display DV video fields even when they exist. If you’re not viewing on a broadcast monitor, you’re flying blind when it comes to fields.

Talking of monkey – did anyone see a man walking around NAB with a real life monkey in his arms, wearing a nappy (diaper)?? That was most bizarre thing I’ve ever seen.

How are you viewing it? You should see interlacing from the conversion to PAL as it’s going to 50i. If you’re not viewing it on a PAL monitor, it’s going to show interlacing, due to PAL being an interlaced format.

My slightly biassed take is this:
If you want utterly pristine conversion, and can wait for literally days, Compressor does the best job.
If you want a pretty darn good conversion that renders about 40 times quicker (at last time I checked) then my conversion plugin is the way to go.
If you want 60i to 24p, I’d probably use mine no matter what as that mode looks great, as does 25p to 60i conversions.
