I have found custom workspaces have always been a bit screwy in Avid.

If you have a saved workspace, and you click on the recall button for it, quite often I find you have to go to the menu button at the bottom, and select recall saved version.

But it is a pretty flaky system.

I’m sure my custom workspaces are the biggest cause of corruption in my settings.

Old school…

color your clip to the black and white to your taste.

Razor your clip where you want the effect to begin.

On the clip to the right hand side of the razor, add a node, and color it to the sepia you want to end with.

Dissolve between the two clips…as long or as short as you want.

With the stream deck you just enter the commands ( keyboard shortcuts) you want the device to perform, in the order you want it performed. If you are running Avid, and press a macro on the stream deck, it simply presses all those buttons for you.

You make a sequence from every clip?

I have a macro that selects the next clip in the bin.

( Match frame…Find bin…move down…select)

From there doing an auto sequence shouldn’t be too difficult.

Yup…unless you buy a plugin, or go old school with a double element…one blurry black version under the main version.

Used that technique many times over the years.

Actually, I just brought an AAF back into Premiere from Resolve, in a new bin, and it did create clips for all events on the timeline, so it should just be a matter of being organized in how you import your aafs.

There should be no issue relinking clips in Premiere from an aaf built from every clip in a bin.

(as long as you are not dealing with avid native op atom files.)

Premiere’s relinking simply shows you a screen of offline shots, and asks you to ID where those files are situated.

I’ve been moving aafs back and forth between premiere and Avid quite a bit for one of the projects I’m working on now…so it does work.

You would have to jump over to the Premiere forum to ask members there about turning that timeline into source clips inside a bin inside Premiere.

It would very much be a manual process. The two programs don’t intertwine in that way.

Avid creates clips for everything contained in an aaf, but I don’t think Premiere does. I think it only gives you the sequence, so even making aafs for each set of bins content will only get you so far. It is possible there is a way to have premiere create the clips upon importing an aaf…but i’m an avid guy, not a premiere guy.

Perhaps an edl would work better for creating clips?

I have both BRU PE and Argest. The tapes work either way.

Not sure if BRU server is any different than PE, but there is a free demo of Argest.

Warning…its pretty buggy.

It is also worth noting that Argest works the same as BRU. Pay to archive, but the free demo will always do a restore for you.

When you launch with no license, it asks if you want to enter a license, or do a restore.

No real need to reverse engineer a tape.
