BRU Server to ArGest?
Hello, I was a user of the old BRU Server software and have almost 200 LTO5 tapes in our library; we use a single HP Storageworks LTO drive.
Will BRU ArGest Desktop Edition allow us to import and open our BRU Server library archive file (bru_server_environment-191021) so we can easily browse the contents of the tapes like we did in Server? Can we integrate the old library into a new one in ArGest, or continue to add to the old library? As a last resort, can I manually import my existing LTO tapes into a new library and then continue to add new LTO backups in ArGest Desktop Edition?
I have read the ArGest software pages on OWC and didn’t see my questions addressed there. I also tried several times to get this info directly from BRU/OWC support weeks ago, but have not received a reply so far, so I’m asking for any knowledge regarding this software from this forum.

Was going to ask the same question (actually about BruPE compatibility) with ArGest.
We have the same scenario.. existing library/environment we need to access and wondering if ArGest (and which version) will read/import our archive file and allow restores from existing spanned tape sets and, ideally, add to the old library.
Also perused the OWC/ArGest page but no conclusive info. Also contacted support to no avail.
Would appreciate any insight as well.

The old BRU format on some old tapes I had is reversed engineered and can be recovered. I posted on another thread here also. See this website, Dmitry recovered some bru tapes for me. He has several blogs on the subject. Some SGI people used BRU.

I have both BRU PE and Argest. The tapes work either way.
Not sure if BRU server is any different than PE, but there is a free demo of Argest.
Warning…its pretty buggy.
It is also worth noting that Argest works the same as BRU. Pay to archive, but the free demo will always do a restore for you.
When you launch with no license, it asks if you want to enter a license, or do a restore.
No real need to reverse engineer a tape.
