if you do a lot of linking, than you are probably looking at old renders, and motion effects.

(i don’t think links would show up in the media tool would they?)

If the files are relatively small you probably aren’t looking at “real” media.

  • Lor, i’m guessing you are on an older version of Avid? Pre 8.6-ish.

If you want to email a copy of the sequence i can try to convert it for you. I think you will still be able to open the converted version in an older version of Avid.

The project file you brought home is (as you have figured out) only half of what you need.

You could have probably guessed by the size of the file when you transferred it that something was missing.

If you are not dealing with links, you need to find where the avid is capturing/importing your media to.
On that drive you will find an Avid MediaFiles folder. In that folder is an MXF folder, in that folder you will probably see a 1 folder. In that folder, you will probably see all your media.

Copy that folder to your home computer, and you should be off and running.

NOTE: that folder structer has to be in the root of what ever drive you put it on. Do not make a folder called
“media from work” and then put the rest of the folders in there. The structure of those 3 folders has to remain in tact.

  • Do you see Avid on all 3 monitors?

if so go to your settings and call up the full screen playback setting. place that box on the third monitor and hit “select monitor”
then setup your other two screens to show what you want from a bins perspective, and go fullscreen.

If Avid recognizes all 3 screens, i don’t see why it wouldn’t let you pick the third one as the full screen one.
(i use an i/o device, so this is all just an assumption, but that is the process for setting up full screen mode)

  • you can easily open the bin with the original timeline from within the 59.94 project.

File/open bin…work your way to the other project and select the bin with the sequence you want.

When you double click the bin it will tell you the sequence needs to be converted to the current project settings.

Your media will still work, but depending on the type of media you may notice some odd behavior from the motion adapters that get added.
(i’m assuming you are on a fairly current version of Avid)

  • a little more information might be helpful.

Type of footage (red can have multiple timecodes inside some programs)

Was the footage linked, transcoded, relinked to original and now the match frames aren’t working?

Is there duplicate file names/locations that could be buggering things up?

are all the clips in the multigroup showing wrong timecode..or just one of them?
(if so, what is different from a technical standpoint about that clip?)

If you reveal source file in Avid, does it point to the correct file?

If you isolate that file, into an AvidMediaFiles/mxf/2 folder, and bring in the database, does it show incorrect timecode?

Is there anyway the timecode is correct, but the original links were screwed with and that was the incorrect timecode?

How were the multigroups created? Auto sync, inpoint?

Also, you are monitoring V1, but your clips are on V2 and V3, which is why you are seeing black, not “media offline” in you viewer window. (that probably would have helped you diagnose some of the problem)

There is a little square next to the V1 track nearest the timeline. click that same spot on V3 and you will turn on monitoring on the upper tracks.

  • have you tried loading the rgba file into fusion and adding a channel switcher?

If there is alpha embedded in the resolve output it should work.

If doing it manually..try having a bin with linked timeecodes open and sorted by name beside your original bin sorted by name. You could then probably copy and paste the timecode numbers…maybe even into the alt tc column, or at the very least by using the modify command. (Copy, modify, paste) Should be quicker than typing each timecode manually.

    (What Pat said ☺

There is no quick solution, but re-editing the timeline with proper source is first option.

The other thought was that there might be a scenario where you link to the prores files and create a bin with those clips all with proper timecode. Again, i have not done a lot (like maybe once) of bin merging.

My thought is could you create an ale for both the good and the bad bins, and then get Avid to merge those ALEs
into one that puts the proper timecode from the linked/transcoded column into an aux column.

Then in Avid you could try to relink the sequence based on timecodes from the Aux column and file name?

Again, i don’t totally understand the ways that merging bins works with ALEs but someone here probably can speak up as to whether it is possible or not.
