Avid has an item called fluid morph. It is very useful for this type of scenario, or an interview jump cut where the head doesn’t move too much. Speakers that talk with their hands are very problematic…and speakers with glasses are a bigger challenge.

Someone recently told me that Resolves smooth cut feature did the same thing. I gave it a try, and quickly went back to fluid morph. Maybe I was missing some settings somewhere, but it didn’t look at all like the same thing.

in the “old days” smooth cut meant a 1 or 2 frame dissolve, which is what I was seeing from resolve. Fluid morph actually morphs the features from one frame to the other to try to make the motion look smooth.

If your proxys weren’t created properly in the first place, there is no easy solution.

I personally would go back to Avid, link in the camera raw, and start looking for some pieces of info I could link with in Avid. Failing that, it becomes a lot of manual edit replacements.

All a question like this does is open a can of opinionated worms. Both programs will have different fans, and different haters. Both have the ability to try them for free….so try them both and come to your own conclusion.

The only person who can truly tell you how your brain will react to the intuitive process of a program is you.

You have to commit your multi cam clips in Avid before you can make an AAF.

The one thing I will add to this never ending conversation about why doesn’t my monitor look the same as their monitor question.

Yes i use a calibrated Flanders CM series monitor, so i have very high confidence in what I output, but if you don’t, there is only so much you can do.

But at the root of the director saying “the blacks look crushed” is simply your knowledge that you have done your adjustments, using your eyes and your scopes. If the blacks are just kissing 0 on the scopes, and mids are not all compressed down at the bottom, and you have a proper working knowledge of your output settings, then you should be able to say to whom ever is complaining. ” I promise you, the blacks are not crushed, your monitor is off”

If “every other monitor” at your disposal is showing a flat picture, and your BenQ is showing proper black levels, AND your scopes are showing proper black levels, then you may have a workflow issue.
(display lut?…improperly tagged levels?) Output bars or even the black to white gradation, and see what they look like. They are there for a reason.

There are also plenty of back up programs out there that will do nightly backups of “new” media . Set it once and forget about it.

There is a support page on the blackmagic site, as well as the forums over there.
The support page does offer email and a phone option…depending on your location. I’ve email’d them about a couple of licensing issues, and they were pretty good to respond. Not sure how well it works for a “how do I add a keyframe to a …” type of question.

The forum is not blackmagic support as such, but they do chime in, plus as with the cow, there are plenty of others to help out.

They do not offer paid support at all, AFAIK.

There are other ways of doing it, so you may want to google “Insert edit”, but an easy way is to drag your clip to the record monitor window, and you should see a list pop up on the right hand side…drag the clip to “insert” and release the clip. This should shift your timeline down by the length of your title card.

Be aware…depending on how your sound is laid out, you may shift audio that you don’t want to shift.
(music for example, may insert a hole as well)

I would think a blackmagic mini monitor would work. Has sdi and hdmi out, and thunderbolt in.

Not a mac person, so you may want to double check your available connections…but blackmagic should have something for your in the monitoring department.
