You could make a new timeline of all the media clips you want to copy and consolidate that.

Are there sources in the project you don’t want to consolidate? Depending on how you organize your projects and your mxf folders, you could simply copy the folder that has the media in it. If all your imports happened at once, sort by date and you will probably be able to figure out what media you want to copy.
File names will often lead you to realize what source those files came from as well.

try a 4 character convention. 01.sfx_ or 01.sfxs will work
(sometimes you gotta play by their rules)

I believe there is a timecode addon in Squeeze if you don’t want to add it in Avid. Type up the start time and it goes from there.

Have you tried doing a fast import? The files out of FCP are Pro Res, and you are on a Mac – correct?
Do you need them to convert to DNX?

I’ve done timecode effect to reference movie (with audio mixdown) to squeeze to (enter name of dvd software here) without any issues.

I find with multilayered audio i need to do a mixdown during reference creation, or i find some of my levels or dissolves don’t show up correctly in the final quicktime.

I believe you can do an add, overlay,multiply etc in Avid FX. John says i have it for free, but i honestly don’t see it anywhere. Is it under a sub-effect tab?

I do own Boris, and it has a composite plugin that does all the transfer modes.
There used to be a free transfer mode plug in for Avid Ver. 2.5 or 3. from Profound Effects. (a good 6 or 7 years ago) I don’t know that it is still available, or would work with the new versions.

Alas, it is not a free function within the timeline.

Different track colours show you different media types that Avid is dealing with.

clip the hamburger button under your timeline and select clip color. It will show you the settings, and allow you to customize it to what ever you want.

I think Mike is looking for the “auto update” function?

As far as i know, there is no such thing. Perhaps some weird workaround of ama’ing
reference movies? Create a ref movie of sequence A, ama it back in, edit into sequence B.

Change Sequence A and re output the reference movie. Probably have to RE-Link your AMA.
Not sure if that would work or not.

I love that function in AE, makes multi pass stuff quite simple.

You may want to look into building macros.

I use a g13 for these kind of commands and create macros for stuff i do all the time.

My favourite is a 1 press button to swap out audio after the picture edit is done. (I don’t usually edit with ambient audio in my initial pass) I have programmed a macro on the G13 – 1 press does the following.

mark edit, deselect all audio and video tracks, select video 1 track, match frame, deselect source side video and audio, select source side channels 1 and 2, select record side, deselect record side video, select record side audio 3 and 4 (auto patch is enabled) perform edit.

I have a button programmed for a “replace ch 3/4” and another for “replace ch 5/6”

Once you start playing with them, you can really go crazy with the commands. The good thing about the G13 is you can save your macros to it, and then transfer them to what ever box it is plugged into.

There are also macro software only solutions that may be able to help, but i haven’t used them extensively.

I’ve only used it with the matrox mxo2. Their other Avid solution requires the Mojo DX or Nitris DX box.

That hardware is needed for the playout to contain the CC. Do you have either of those boxes?
